fajrdrako: ([Heroes] - Peter)

I came across this picture and thought it was brilliant.

Mama Petrelli: the scariest parent on television.

I got this from [livejournal.com profile] ohnotheydidnt this morning. Oh joy! Another casting coup for Heroes! I am so pleased to read this.... It's as if they were, one by one, picking my favourite actors for what is already a favourite show. Text of the Variety news item under my cut, for those who don't want casting spoilers... I would have given a lot to be at San Diego Comic Con this year, or any year. I've attended several times, though not recently, and each time it was a wonderful, wonderful experience.

And if I had been there, I would have attended the Heroes panel, where the MC was Jeph Loeb, and both Tim Kring (the creator and producer and head writer) and Tim Sale (the comic books artist who drew a lot of the comic book pictures in the show). Along with Masi Oka (Hiro), Hayden Panettiere (Claire), Noah Gray-Cabey (Micah), Adrian Pasdar (Nathan Petrelli), Milo Ventimiglia (Peter Petrelli), Greg Grunberg (Matt), Sendhil Ramamurthy (Mohinder), Ali Larter (Niki and Jessica), Jack Colman (Mr Bennet), Zachary Quinto (Sylar),James Kyson Lee (Ando Masahashi), and the woman who is going to play Mia next season. Is that it? It really was an amazing line-up of guests.

And their comments were quite fascinating. How do I know? I watched it on their website. I am not able to watch the episodes on their website due to copyright restrictions (drat! I want to hear those commentaries!) but I could watch the SDCC footage. I am happy. Next best thing to being there - thought they didn't show the spoilers on the website.

The first thing that relieved me was the impression given that all the above characters whom we came to know and love in Season One will reappear in Season Two. I was afraid they'd be doing a different storyline with mostly-different characters. Apparently not so.

In general: they all seemed rather high on their love of the show and their appreciation of their audience. The first public exposure of any kind that Heroes got was a screening at San Diego Comic Con in 2006, so they had reason to be happy with the experience, with the success of Heroes. They announced the graphic novel, coming out in the fall with covers by Jim Lee and Alex Ross. They talked about the spin-off show, "Heroes Origins" - and Kevin Smith appeared to say he'd be writing one episode. He said he hoped it wouldn't be the kiss of death for the show; he seemed to think his appearance on Veronica Mars might have been its downfall. Tim Kring seemed to think they'd survive.

Interesting points:... )

[livejournal.com profile] maaboroshi and I did a lot of screaming and speculating as we watched. I loved it and can hardly wait for next season.

My main question is... )
fajrdrako: ([Heroes] - Peter)

I watched the Heroes episode "Landslide" with [livejournal.com profile] maaseru and [livejournal.com profile] maaboroshi. Loved it. [livejournal.com profile] maaboroshi and I kept squealing and gasping - the budgies got rather too excited (read: loud) and had to be banished to the bedroom. [livejournal.com profile] maaboroshi was somewhat less moved, perhaps because she is less attuned to comic book plotting. The plot thickens; the characters come together thematically; and with cliffhangers on every corner, I can't tell what's going to happen.

Shall I mention again that I love Peter Petrelli? But not exclusively Peter. )

I watched the Heroes episode "The Hard Part" this evening.

Loved it. Peter and Hiro were... )

You can probably guess that I loved this one. Peter, Peter, Peter! If I loved him before, when he was inexperienced and frightened, how much more... )

That was fun. That was so much fun I won't even complain about... )

I got this from [livejournal.com profile] vervassal: "Which Heroes Character Would Make a Good Boyfriend for You?" Silly, right? But if you've been paying attention, you know I'm madly in love with both Peter and Claude, and therefore I am delighted that the Oracle Meme Which Knows All proclaims me a suitable match for the younger Petrelli.

Yay! )

Scary, scary, and brilliant.

Woo. I was so worried... )

This will come as no surprise to anyone, since I'm a fangirl extraordinaire, long-time comic book addict (with a fondness for Tim Sale's art), sword-weilder, and optimist.... Yup, and if I could teleport in space and time, and if I were male and Japanese, and if I had a friend named Ando, I'd be - who do you think? )

You may have noticed that I love, absolutely love, Christopher Eccleston as Claude in Heroes. Not as much as I loved him as the Doctor, but hey, nothing could match that. And there's a new episode tonight - great! Last week distressed me by not featuring Claude and Peter at all. This week, I live in hope.

But I keep seeing news items about Eccleston's role in "The Dark is Rising". And I keep trying to feel confident about this, but really, every item I hear makes it harder to fight my dismay.

First of all - and I think this may be heresy, considering how many people recommended this book to me - I didn't much like The Dark is Rising. It was... not terrible. But it didn't match the standards of Diana Wynne Jones for British fantasy. Considering the recommendations I'd heard, it disappointed me.

Secondly, it is clear they have made a lot of changes to the characters and updates to the themes - making the main characters Americans, for example. The updates might make me like the story more. But it annoys me. Why adapt a book as a movie if you're going to change everything? Why not just make an original fantasy movie about American kids in Cornwall? (Er... it was Cornwall, wasn't it?)

Thirdly, this does not bode well for Eccleston having a long tenure on Heroes, which is too bad, since I like Claude so very much.

I was talking about sidekicks on Friday answering the [livejournal.com profile] fannish5 Friday 5 question. When I started answering I was thinking that I don't like sidekicks - who are sideliners by definition - but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that wasn't true.

And in conversation with [livejournal.com profile] monsieureden this morning, I realized that I'd missed one of the best sidekicks ever - which ought to be fresh in my consciousness, because it's a current, beloved show - and the character is Ando, who hangs out with Hiro Nakamura in Heroes. He's a classic sidekick, and he's wonderful.

I think the thing I love most about Hiro is that though he's Japanese, and hardly spoke English at the beginning of the season, there's nothing 'foreign' about him - he's the most accessible 'everyman' international sort of character I can think of. Besides that, I love his courage and sense of adventure.

And Ando is a worthy sidekick for him!

Love the show. Love it for giving me scenes with Claude and Peter. Distracting for sure. Love it that... )

I often find it difficult to think what the episode titles in Heroes mean. But I love it that they show them. So artfully, too.

As you all might expect, my favourite parts were... )
