fajrdrako: (Slings & Arrows)

Since I have been thinking about Slings and Arrows, I tracked down the theme songs on YouTube - by going to the beginning of the first episode of each season - and copied down the lyrics. The first theme song, the one for season one, is Cheer Up, Hamlet, and I posted the lyrics this morning. You can hear it on YouTube at minute 1:19 here.

The theme for season 2 is I Don't Play Mackers. The lyrics:
Call me superstitious or cowardly or weak
But I'll never play a character
Whose name one dare not speak

I'll play Hamlet
In doublet and hose
Or either of the Dromeos
But sorry, I won't play Mackers

I'll play Richard the Third
With a hump and a wig
Or Henry the Eighth
That selfish pig
But sorry, I don't do Mackers

Every soul who plays this role
Risks injury or death
I'd rather sweep the bloody stage
Then ever do
Mac-you-know-who

So gimme King Lear, Cleopatra,
Romeo or Juliet, doesn't mattra,
I'll play them all for free
But I'd be crackers
To take on Mackers
You see, I's skittish about the Scottish tragedy, och aye.
You can here it on YouTube here starting at about minute 1:15.

I can't find the theme for season 3. Will continue to look at a future date.

Lovely icon! Razorblade!Geoffrey with Oliver looming over his shoulder - pretty much sums him up. *g*

I wonder if the razorblade was the scriptwriter's idea or whether PG himself came up with it...

Yes. The symbolism, not to mention the literalism, of that icon is pefect. Really captures Geoffrey's character, and the relationship between Oliver and Geoffrey, and the sharp-edged zaniness going on.

I wonder if the razorblade was the scriptwriter's idea or whether PG himself came up with it...

I wonder! I think it's the kind of thing PG *might* come up with - I think there's a lot of Geoffrey in him, or at least potential Geoffrey.

But then... thinking again of those writers... There isn't much they're not capable of.

Lear.

the theme for the last season is Lear.
I've watched seasons one [hamlet] and three [lear] but I can't find Mackers anywhere so that i can watch it. Me and The Scottish Play have always been at cross purposes: I love it, and can't say it, and it can love me, and can scream it from the roof tops.

Slings and Arrows was a wonderful show. I miss it and i only got to know of it through theft, without Cable, a girls only friends are her torrents.

I have seen all three seasons - I own the DVD for the last one. (Birthday present.) I don't have first or second season and I'd love to get them. Maybe for Christmas!

I've just rediscovered this wonderful series. It's even better than I remembered. Thank you for posting the lyrics to Mackers. That last line has been driving me crazy. It was the "I's skittish" that I couldn't get. Okay, can go to sleep happy now.
