fajrdrako: ([Heroes] - Peter)

You can probably guess that I loved this one. Peter, Peter, Peter! If I loved him before, when he was inexperienced and frightened, how much more can I love him when he's experienced, authoritative, focussed, in control of his powers, and angry?

I loved the way we saw his epic battle with Sylar at the end, as bright lights through the crack of the door.

Loved the future Hiro, too, especially the reaction of young Hiro to him. "Talk to yourself." - "I can't. I scare me." Love it.

And Matt, not just stupid, but a cop with authority. The new Petrelli regime reminded me of the situation when Lex Luthor became president in Superman comics. As they were rounding up the 'terrorist' superheroes I was reminded of Children of Men (since I just saw it) and, of course, X-Men - the latter especially with the supposed cure for superhero powers - wasn't that both in one of the movies and in The Astonishing X-Men too?

But then, it was all reminiscent of "Days of Future Past", which is not a bad thing at all.

Scary, for a superhero lover like myself.

Which brings me back to Peter. Fun to see him with Niki - just another angle, perhaps, on the incestuous aura of the Petrelli brothers. I loved the way Peter dressed, and the scar - we'll probably never get the story of that scar. What I loved most was that, on the face of it, that scar is impossible.

Clarie and Mr. Bennet were great.

As usual, I love Mohinder, but with a large element of frustration. Will he never have powers of his own? Besides seeing an oracular boy with a football? Will he never stop falling for Sylar's tricks? I'd love to think he saw through Sylar and was being clever, but I couldn't see any evidence of it. And of course he jabbed the Haitian in the end, instead of young Hiro. Predictable but wonderful!

I like it that we returned to the phrase, "Save the cheerleader, save the world."

Peter was amazing in that episode. Can we keep him around? Please? I like that for all that he was a tough, adult character with authority and not a little bitterness, he was still Peter: still trying to save the world. I loved that he was a menacing, seedy, incredibly powerful character-in the scene with the guards ('It's been a while since I had a good fight'), the strip club, the scene where he saved future!Hiro and Ando...

It was cool!

I do wonder why the Haitan switched teams- I could understand all the other character changes, but why is the Haitan suddenly bad?

Yes, Peter was amazing, and much as I adore current-day woobie Peter I'm quite eager to get to the point where we have future!Peter back. I loved the way he moved. Very expressive. And as you say, despite all the differences in him, he was still in character, still our Peter.

Peter reminded of Magneto at his best, and that's saying a lot.

Yes, I wonder why the Haitian changed sides. I wonder how he chooses his loyalties in the here-and-now; but it seems that in the present time he has chosen the right sides and the right allies. I wonder what would change that.

Clarie and Mr. Bennet were great.

Apart from Peter and the Hiros, Bennet&Claire were the highlight of the ep. for me. I will think of them as Bennet&Claire from now on, because this ep. confirmed a few things for me...

1. Specific timeline aside, Bennet's ultimate loyalty will always be to Claire despite the cost (Sandra leaving).

2. Claire's ultimate loyalty will always be to Bennet and his efforts to shield her, as she convinced Andy to change his plans in relation to her and not the other way around.

3. Specific timeline aside, one will not live long without the other. Furthermore, in that future, if he had seen Claire dead, HRG would've only lived long enough to eat that bullet anyway.

Claire and Mr Bennet just get better and better all the time.

I'm glad Claire wasn't dead!

I find Bennet&Claire comforting actually. They're proof that a love story doesn't have to involve sex and romance (in the modern sense) to be a love story. I like it when writers think outside the box that way.

Speaking of romance in the modern sense, however, the latest comic is part one of a two-parter, giving us the backstory on Future Peter/Future Niki. I can't access the official site directly through this library computer, so I'll give you the following page. Use the links at the bottom:

Thanks for the link - the Peter/Niki story should be good. I wonder what happened to Jessica? It isn't like some of the other characters, where Sylar could kill them, or they could just be blown up... Is there a way Sylar could get Jessica and her power, and not Niki?

I like it when writers think outside the box that way.

I do too. It's such an interesting relationship.

Is there a way Sylar could get Jessica and her power, and not Niki?

Ali Larter (Niki/Jessica) and the writers have been hinting in various places (like the online ep. commentary at http://www.nbc.com/heroes) that events are forcing Jessica and Niki to integrate, keeping the best traits of each. In the current timeline, we see hints of it in Jessica's reaction to Linderman re: Micah in .07%

events are forcing Jessica and Niki to integrate

I like that, because the integrated personality is more interesting than either of them are separately.

Also, I have to say that this episode simplified my Epic Tale of Doom quite a lot. Thank you, Mr. Kring.

I counted all the different storylines I have going in this thing. There's six. I am scared.

...Is that good? If it's any encouragement, I thought this story was terrific!

I am scared.

Be brave. There is nothing to fear but fear itself.

:D

It simplifies it in a good way. Still lots of plots and conflicting interests, and a shouty!Dctor v a scarred!Peter, which was way too much fun, and Jack shagging everything in sight... and it all fits in very nicely with the post-apocalyptic scenario (which is a magical motivation-generator).
