fajrdrako: ([Heroes] - Peter)

I got this from [livejournal.com profile] ohnotheydidnt this morning. Oh joy! Another casting coup for Heroes! I am so pleased to read this.... It's as if they were, one by one, picking my favourite actors for what is already a favourite show. Text of the Variety news item under my cut, for those who don't want casting spoilers...

Kristen Bell throws curve to 'Heroes'
'Veronica Mars' star added to cast
By JOSEF ADALIAN
Bell

NBC is adding former “Veronica Mars” star Kristen Bell to the cast of “Heroes.”
Peacock has snagged Bell for a key multiepisode arc of its sophomore sensation. Casting is a major coup for NBC since Bell -- who plays the title character in Judd Apatow’s upcoming “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” -- was reportedly being sought for several TV gigs, including a part on ABC’s “Lost.”

Bell will make her first “Heroes” appearance in October. She’ll play Elle, a character described as a sexy, mysterious young lady who has ties to the supposed death of Peter, H.R.G.’s past and the future of Claire. Elle will kick off her arc by committing a serious crime, though it’s unclear whether she’s good or bad.

“This was not easy to pull off,” said “Heroes” creator-exec producer Tim Kring. “But since we’re an ensemble show, with many arcs playing out through the year, we found a way to jump into a small window in (Bell’s) schedule.”

Universal Media Studios prexy Katherine Pope also hinted that landing Bell wasn't easy, noting that "many studios (were) chasing her in both film and TV" and that she was happy that Bell "chose to star in our show."

In addition to her gig in the Apatow pic, Bell co-stars in the Weinstein Co.’s upcoming “Fanboys” and supplies one of the voices in the 2008 animated Fox feature “Sheepish.” She also has another regular role on a network skein, voicing the narrator in CW’s new drama “Gossip Girl.”

Bell’s past credits include a recurring gig on “Deadwood,” Showtime’s 2004 adaptation of “Reefer Madness” and last summer’s “Pulse.”

Thesp is represented by CAA and Emily Gerson-Saines of Brookside Artist Management.

Good question! It's already large, and I don't think many of the regulars are going away, though there are a few I'm just as happy not to see again. (Matt's wife, for example.) I'd like to see Audrey again, but... I guess not.

How broad is this story going to be?

Or more to the point, since most of the new characters seem to be mutants - how many mutants are there wandering around for Mohinder to look for?

I guess I'm just worried about dilution. I think they have to inject fresh blood into the series, but at the same time I love the regulars, and I don't want the writers/storylines to be spread too thin.

I like the idea of more mutants and that mutation is commoner then we first think, but I had hoped that there are some focus on the regular folks too. I know she wasn't popular, but I liked Simone because she was the (normal) misfit in the show.

We still only have forty-whatever minutes in each episode. I like the way they have juxtaposed and interwoven stories and characters so far, but it's a tricky business, and every so often there's an episode that deals mostly with the characters I don't like (luckily in the minority) and less with those I particularly like. Maybe they'll ease into new storylines? I'm looking forward too, for example, the story of Nana, but what about the follow-up to the story of Mama Petrelli?

I liked Simone because she was beautifull, and had character.

Very interesting, all of it! I hope they do make a Veronica Mars movie, or some sort of sequel. Too much was left unresolved.

That was fun - Ando as a hero. I can't help loving the guy - even if just for Hiro's sake.

I would recommend Heroes highly, not just because of its good cast. I like the way it builds - each episode adds dimensions to characters, background, and character complexity. Now, it doesn't all fit together perfectly, but it's beautifully constructed. Characters build beautifully as the various themes weave together. There were certainly characters and themes I didn't like, but it didn't really matter, because there is so much there that if you don't like someone, there'll be characters in the same story that you do like.

And there's a fine sense of suspense and dramatic build-up.

I'm terribly curious about Kristen Bell. She says she'd like to be a villain, but I'd love to see her as a hero.

I've been meaning to check it out for some time now, as I've heard many good things about it. And now that it will be airing here, I no longer have any excuses not to watch it (the main one being "it's not on in Norway"). Looking forward to it.

I was lucky in that it aired in Canada the same time as in the US. And of course, I had extra reason to want to watch, that being the combination of Christopher Eccleston and the fact that it's a similar premise to the X-Men - though I don't think the word 'mutant' is ever used.
