[livejournal.com profile] maaseru and I went to the Loblaw's on McArthur Road to get some groceries. I needed tea. Bought a teapot, four cups, a pullover and a pair of gloves. I think I was ambushed....

I'm seriously planning to set up a plastic-free kitchen. Can I do this? Well, why not?

Catalogued some 400 comics today. The only hard part was resisting the temptation to sit and read (or reread) them.

[livejournal.com profile] lunacy_gal, now one of my knitting gurus, came over and taught me how to cast on. She also taught me how to purl, as [personal profile] commodorified, [personal profile] fairestcat and Beulah have already done. Somehow it hasn't quite stuck in my brain or fingers yet. I think I must be the slowest-witted would-be knitter ever. We watched an episode of Due South I hadn't seen before - one of the best, I thought, 3x15, "Easy Money". As with all the episodes I've seen so far with Kowalski in them, he didn't seem to be in it much, and didn't seem to be central to the action the way Vecchio was. I loved the theme about his parents, though.

Over dinner, watched a few episodes of Merlin (which I'm beginning to think is asinine) and the latest episode of Smallville. Smallville looked good in comparison, but I wasn't drawn in.

Had a lovely evening with [livejournal.com profile] commodorified, [livejournal.com profile] auriaphialia, and [livejournal.com profile] raynedaze. I made macaroni and cheese without wheat, using corn pasta, and then discovered that [livejournal.com profile] raynedaze has a problem with corn. Ah well, next time I'll know! We spent a lot of time in conversation and then watched the Due South episode "Some Like it Hot". Much enjoyed by all. I've been thinking all along that this show, much as I'm enjoying it, just isn't nearly as slashy as I'd been led to believe. This episode was slashy. Which was fun. And I liked the connection between school, nuns, and gangsters. Does anyone know where I can get screencaps of it?

We made an agreement to meet up on Wednesdays, as a day potentially convenient to us all (and spouses, for those who have them).

Does anyone know a good source of wheat-free recipes?

I have my computer back. Oh joy and bliss. Access again!

Many friends helped me, especially [livejournal.com profile] maaseru, who let me use her laptop during the hiatus and drove me to pick up my machine. The power supply had died - they said they managed to recover all my data, and I hope they are right. It seems just fine. It's even reset to my old Captain Jack desktop wallpaper. Those Gamepower boys work miracles.1

[livejournal.com profile] iclysdale helped me set it up, which was much appreciated, too. I can do it. Really, I can. But he did it so much faster and better than I can.

And [livejournal.com profile] commodorified proved what a lovely guest she can be. While we were sitting around my living room, eating spaghetti, drinking tea, and watching Due South ("Starman"), we used up all the milk in my fridge and had to use canned condensed milk in our tea. A while after everyone left, there was a tap on my door. It was [livejournal.com profile] commodorified, who had bought me a litre of milk and walked back to give it to me, so I could have milk with my breakfast.

I'm so very tired... It's been a long and stressful day. Week. Whatever. But the things that happened to counteract that make me smile.

1 It amuses me no end that most of the guys who work there seem to be named Tim, though they hired a Philip recently. Possibly an oversight? Or a pseudonym?

Morning: Tim Horton's coffee with [livejournal.com profile] maaseru and [livejournal.com profile] maaboroshi, then exercising with my trainer Lynne, and Lisa. Was a little surprised how much I could do, and how my the Foot could do. It was a good session.

Then we went to Cora's for lunch, and talked about various things, including my job, or impending lack thereof. It was a little depressing.

Then: my place, to watch Dr Horrible's Sing-Along Blog and then The Moonstone with [livejournal.com profile] iclysdale, [livejournal.com profile] commodorified and [livejournal.com profile] auriaephiala. Then we went for a walk - barefoot in the park for a good part of it. [livejournal.com profile] commodorified is especially good at Foot-coaching. [livejournal.com profile] raynedaze joined us and we watched three episodes of Due South: 'The Blue Line', 'The Deal' and 'An Invitation to Romance'. I liked 'The Deal' very much - perhaps the best of the episodes I've seen so far.

Tired. Taking the Foot to bed now.

Rotten day: started out with an early-morning mammogram. Poked and prodded and squished.

Then: long wait at an incredibly cold bus stop.

Then: Aches and pains of all sorts at work. Abdominal pain, headache, aching eyes....

Good evening: [livejournal.com profile] commodorified, [livejournal.com profile] iclysdale and [livejournal.com profile] auriaephiala came over. We ate lentil soup, cheese, crackers, bread, and salad, and watched the latest episode of Torchwood ("Dead Man Walking") and then episode 3 of Due South ("Diefenbaker's Day Off").

And we talked.

[livejournal.com profile] commodorified may be the only person I know who has read all Dorothy Dunnett's Johnson Johnson books, but none of the historicals. I wonder if she has read "The Proving Climb".
