Had a lovely evening with
commodorified,
auriaphialia, and
raynedaze. I made macaroni and cheese without wheat, using corn pasta, and then discovered that
raynedaze has a problem with corn. Ah well, next time I'll know! We spent a lot of time in conversation and then watched the
Due South episode "Some Like it Hot". Much enjoyed by all. I've been thinking all along that this show, much as I'm enjoying it, just isn't nearly as slashy as I'd been led to believe. This episode was slashy. Which was fun. And I liked the connection between school, nuns, and gangsters. Does anyone know where I can get screencaps of it?
We made an agreement to meet up on Wednesdays, as a day potentially convenient to us all (and spouses, for those who have them).
Does anyone know a good source of wheat-free recipes?

Date: 2009-03-19 05:45 am (UTC)Search online for support sites for those on the autistic spectrum; many such folks are helped by avoiding wheat gluten (so many that some people with only good intentions are pretty insistent that ALL of us on the spectrum need to live gluten-free, no exceptions). Anyway, you will find many resources that way. Also, mainstream bookstores are also a good place to look -- enough folks are insensitive to gluten that quite a few cookbooks and also just dietary guides are out now. Good luck.

Date: 2009-03-22 06:33 pm (UTC)Of course, the wider fandom on LJ disagrees with me, but I do find S1/2 much slashier than S3, though in a totally different way. (I actually started with S3, and I didn't even think Fraser and RayK liked each other.) Although I can sort of see why people think S3 is slashy (although, not really, because I don't see much, or any, physical chemistry), it seems more of the verbal "what they said" kind of thing, and even one "famous" slashy scene just reads as uncomfortable to me; in S1/2, for me, the slashiness screams out of body language and some of the subtleties. For instance, "Chinatown" used to bore the everloving crap out of me; however, if I look at it as Fraser and Ray getting interrupted on a date, it makes so much more sense. And the "old married couple" dialogue is pretty intense, at the same time "Chicago Holiday" ends with Fraser saying, "And sometimes, when you wait, the universe comes to you," while gazing at Ray. There's also a plot point in "One Good Man (AKA Thank You Kindly, Frank Capra)" that seems the slashiest thing I've ever seen or heard, but I don't know if you're there yet, so I won't spoil!
Obviously, everybody's temperature is in a different space — I just love the intimacy and interaction of Ray V and Fraser a lot more than some of the "intentional slashiness" of more recent TV shows.* And there's a moment in the finale that just hit me between the eyes before I even knew who Ray V was!
*The only reason Jack/Nine works for me like it does is that CE and JB have such chemistry; the way they play off each other rhythmically in dialogue, and the way their bodies mirror each other so easily (similar to Fraser and RayV, IMO) sells it. With Jack/Ten, I see Jack/JB trying, but there's something slightly forced about Ten/DT which works dramatically if you read it that the Doctor's feelings had changed, possibly through the regeneration — something I wish they'd bother to deal with in some way rather than that idiotic "fixed point in time" balderdash. It could have been so much more interesting, but they had sets to blow up and scenery to chew, apparently.
Hi!
Yes, I am this far behind on LJ.

We'll see what I think of season 3 (and RayK) when I get there.

The end of season 2, you mean?
The only reason Jack/Nine works for me like it does is that CE and JB have such chemistry
My goodness,yes.
With Jack/Ten, I see Jack/JB trying, but there's something slightly forced about Ten/DT which works dramatically if you read it that the Doctor's feelings had changed, possibly through the regeneration
This is my interpretation - that, or that Ten's ability to relate to people has been destroyed through trauma. This seemed even clearer to me in "Journey's End", where he couldn't even accept Rose back. Perhaps the guilt of having sent Jack to his death had something to do with it?

Clearly.
