Yesterday I was wandering around the neighbourhood happily taking photos of crocuses and springtime sunshine. Today, I got to to see this - the view from my living room window:

and this:

and this:

Dashing my dreams of spring... rain in April gives one hope of flowers. But snow? It's just more winter, and we've had enough.

Here's an intersting bit of sidewalk on Bank Street:

Some plants growing beside the bank:

And a man crossing the street in the snow:

So glad you like it! With any luck I'll soon be able to post some gorgeous flower-filled springtime photos for you.

April snow is horrible! But I really like the leaf picture - that's really cool. Fortunately the snow won't stick, but still, if it's cold enough to snow, it's too cold for me.

I am not happy with it. It feels like a cruel blow, after a few warm days have aroused our hopes of spring.

I genuinely loathe early spring.

A friend of mine assures me that this is because I grew up in New Hampshire. Well, it sucks in Boston too. Apparently there are places in the world where it doesn't suck?

When I lived in London, April was gorgeous. The weather for the rest of the year was absolutely awful, but April was great.

Perhaps you could try central California (if you don't mind the earthquakes and wildfires, that is).

I am not recommending B.C., as they too were hit by snow recently (but there is no snow in their current forecast, just lots of Rain).

Live in California? Shudder. Nice place to visit but... No, wait, I've never been to central California, now I think of it. I've been to LA, San Diego, San Francisco, Palo Alto - but never to the central part of the State. Maybe I'd like it. But then, I wouldn't want to live in the US, regardless.

My favourite part of North American geography is Nova Scotia. I don't imagine they're great for snow, either.

It was sopping out and just above zero when I when out this evening. The only thing that would have made it worse would have been high winds. It's unpleasant; I hope the weather improves soon.

I kept meaning to go out for a walk today, but... no. Just no. I stayed home, warm and dry, after my initial foray for photos.

The word 'miserable' was created to cover this kind of day.

Yeah you and the rest of us. We are tired of snow too! It snowed last night and snowed again this evening and it was a good FOOT of snow on my car this morning, WHY?

:)

Because fate is cruel?

Because the weather gods love to see us suffer?

Because there is too much global warming so we need all this &%#*ing snow to compensate?

Unfortunately, old Sol is not providing enough heat and warmth to keep conditions normal. [The Sun usually has a few sunspots, indicating a lot of energetic activity; in the past year or two, the number of sunspots has dropped to zero (http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5guAhyObk2E4CfjHAda1Fi4wRraRQD97AIOB00).]

According to other sources that I have read, that sunspot cycle has a far bigger effect on the Earth's temperature than human activity does, so "global warming" (especially the type caused by humans) may turn out to be an error in statistics!

You may want to look at this webpage (http://www.petitionproject.org/) for more on this.

I have read that too; and I have read refutation of it; and I nonetheless think it makes more sense to me than the effect of human activity. Which is not to say we can't pollute ourselves to death if we aren't careful, but there are more forces at work than we can control. Which has always been the case.

So: as we have done since the dawn of time, we complain about the weather. I bet the first amoeba who struggled out of the depths grumpled that the sunshine was too hot that day. Or not hot enough.

A mere dusting - I have to shovel- at least 6 inches when I last looked, but it's still snowing. Love the maple leaf pic. Where are your flower pics?

My flower pics from yesterday are still on my hard drive - with any luck I'll put them up tomorrow. I just didn't have the heart today!

I've always liked that maple leaf in the sidewalk. I don't know why it's there, but I'm glad it is!

It's autumn here now; daylight savings officially ended last weekend, which means it really is heading towards winter. I'm looking forward to that. I love the wind and the rain and the wild weather of Wellington and having to wear long coats out.

At the same time, I'm really enjoying the contrast of your posts about the coming of spring and particularly the photos.

Glad you enjoyed my pictures. I'm hoping to post the one from Sunday today - you know, the nice ones with the first flowers appearing in gardens.

More snow today. Maybe I'll dress warmly and go for a walk in it.

One day last week, we had a hard frost in the morning & took a walk in shorts that afternoon.

Wonky weather is wonky.

You remind me of something I used to love in the Darkover books - that on that planet, they would get frost or snow overnight, and that would be followed by a comparatively warm sunny day.

We don't have that kind of luck, usually. Yes, the temperature can jump or drop many degrees in a day - but we seem to too often get the kind of weather that starts out cold and stays cold!
