Yesterday I was wandering around the neighbourhood happily taking photos of crocuses and springtime sunshine. Today, I got to to see this - the view from my living room window:

and this:

and this:

Dashing my dreams of spring... rain in April gives one hope of flowers. But snow? It's just more winter, and we've had enough.

Here's an intersting bit of sidewalk on Bank Street:

Some plants growing beside the bank:

And a man crossing the street in the snow:

Because fate is cruel?

Because the weather gods love to see us suffer?

Because there is too much global warming so we need all this &%#*ing snow to compensate?

Unfortunately, old Sol is not providing enough heat and warmth to keep conditions normal. [The Sun usually has a few sunspots, indicating a lot of energetic activity; in the past year or two, the number of sunspots has dropped to zero (http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5guAhyObk2E4CfjHAda1Fi4wRraRQD97AIOB00).]

According to other sources that I have read, that sunspot cycle has a far bigger effect on the Earth's temperature than human activity does, so "global warming" (especially the type caused by humans) may turn out to be an error in statistics!

You may want to look at this webpage (http://www.petitionproject.org/) for more on this.

I have read that too; and I have read refutation of it; and I nonetheless think it makes more sense to me than the effect of human activity. Which is not to say we can't pollute ourselves to death if we aren't careful, but there are more forces at work than we can control. Which has always been the case.

So: as we have done since the dawn of time, we complain about the weather. I bet the first amoeba who struggled out of the depths grumpled that the sunshine was too hot that day. Or not hot enough.
