Interesting interview with Christopher Eccleston in SCI FI Weekly. His wry, noncommittal style always makes me smile. For instance:
Question: What compelled you to sign on for The Dark Is Rising?
Eccleston: It was paid work.
Really, I'm sure they'd give him more paid work as Claude on Heroes, and I'd love to see it.
Question: What did you make of working with your director, David Cunningham?
Eccleston: Mr. Cunningham and myself are very different animals, but we got the job done.
I still haven't entirely decided whether I want to see The Seeker - and I must say, I'm glad they renamed it, it makes it feel less like a corruption of the book. On the other hand, why do I care? I didn't much like the book. But... on principle, I care.

So why go to a movie about a theme I don't like, with trailers that didn't draw me, from a book I didn't like? Because it's Christopher Eccleston, of course.

With, I predict, not much screen time.

But though nothing else in the trailer appeals to me, Eccleston looks irresistible.

Do we know if Claude is coming back to Heroes? I don't really want to be spoiled about the show, but I'd feel silly hoping for it if Eccleston has said he's not returning to the show.

Last I heard, Eccelston said he would be happy to come back to Heroes if the circumstances were right - or some such noncommittal statement. Tim Kring has said they definitely want to bring Claude back into the story if they can. So as I see it, there's reason to hope, though no firm plans. Eccleston seems more interested in theatre than in further work in American TV , but who knows?

I will continue to hope.

Speaking as a huge fan of the book, I'm also very glad they renamed it. And yeah - even disregarding the book, it doesn't look like an interesting movie. But as much as I hate what they've done to the book, and as much as the movie doesn't interest me...Christopher Eccleston!

*facepalm* Wonder if I can wait for the DVD and only watch his scenes?

Though I wasn't a great lover of the book, I think it would be a terrific movie just as it was. So why'd they mess with it?

And, yeah, Christopher Eccleston.

Yeah, I'll go for the DVD, I think, and use fast-forward to his scenes.

I saw the trailer (twice) last night (it was in an episode I taped of House). It was worse than I remembered it. I just can't give them any money for the kind of movie this appears to be turning out to be -- even as an Eccleston fan.

Look what he says: "I think there are many, many departures from the book to the film. [...] The novel has been hugely Americanized in the film."

If you're really determined to go, I'd definitely recommend a cheap (Tuesday) showing, after the first weekend -- that will give a message in its own way.

Oh dear. I remember first watching the trailer with a sort of sinking feeling - and then there, for a brief second, was Eccleston, and suddenly it all looked good. Just for a minute there.

I probably won't go to see it but the temptation is there. Eccleston on the big screen. If I could sleep through the rest... and be sure of waking up for his scenes.

It was paid work.

Now, THAT is the statement of a working actor. XD I love honesty.

I find him totally, delightfully and refreshingly honest. He talks about taking the work for pay, but it's clear he gives every role 100% of his talent.

Hey, that's the one I (vaguely) know and (sorta) like! :)

The book, you mean? It's hugely popular. I've had fantasy fans recommending it to me for years. So one day I read it and was sort of unimpressed. It wasn't bad, but it didn't grab me. I might still read the sequels.

I want to see him in more stuff. I have some things on my hard drive still to watch. Looking forward to it.

He is *such* a Northerner.

If you want to see it, wait until after opening weekend. Opening weekend matters in sales.

I still don't know if I want to see the movie - I just want to see Eccleston.

I really need a cut of Elizabeth that is the Good Bits Version: just Eccleston, Rush, Diego Maradona. Maybe somebody could do the same cut of Seeker for all of us.

*snerk* I love that response. At this point, I'll probably just slap the movie in my Netflix DVD queue, and watch his parts and skip the rest. Even though I have yet to make it through the books, very little about what I'm hearing about this movie is making it enticing enough to spend 2 hours and ticket money on it, you know? At least if I watch it on DVD, I can do other things and fast-forward as necessary.

Wise of you.

I still feel tempted. It's like falling to the Dark Side, you know? The temptation to see Eccleston as the Dark Rider on the full screen.... For however many minutes.

I must have it bad.

Reminding myself: it means sitting through half an hour of bad movie ads and an hour or two of annoying teen boy dialogue.

Maybe not.
