Had a lovely evening with [livejournal.com profile] commodorified, [livejournal.com profile] auriaphialia, and [livejournal.com profile] raynedaze. I made macaroni and cheese without wheat, using corn pasta, and then discovered that [livejournal.com profile] raynedaze has a problem with corn. Ah well, next time I'll know! We spent a lot of time in conversation and then watched the Due South episode "Some Like it Hot". Much enjoyed by all. I've been thinking all along that this show, much as I'm enjoying it, just isn't nearly as slashy as I'd been led to believe. This episode was slashy. Which was fun. And I liked the connection between school, nuns, and gangsters. Does anyone know where I can get screencaps of it?

We made an agreement to meet up on Wednesdays, as a day potentially convenient to us all (and spouses, for those who have them).

Does anyone know a good source of wheat-free recipes?

Search online for support sites for those on the autistic spectrum; many such folks are helped by avoiding wheat gluten (so many that some people with only good intentions are pretty insistent that ALL of us on the spectrum need to live gluten-free, no exceptions). Anyway, you will find many resources that way. Also, mainstream bookstores are also a good place to look -- enough folks are insensitive to gluten that quite a few cookbooks and also just dietary guides are out now. Good luck.

Yes. I do have one book and it will serve me for a while, but I think it's time to compile a few recipes. And maybe to invest in some potato flour, rice flour, and a few cannisters.

Do you have any good ideas for fresh asparagus...?

Fresh asparagus (one of the greatest foods there are) is best just lightly steamed. Maybe with a little butter. I've had it with delicate sauces (like lemon butter) but really, I like it best with minimal preparation.

I've taken to like asaparagus lightly boiled or steamed, then cooled and nibbled as a snack. Maybe with a little salt, but it doesn't even need that.

Ah! I like the "cooled and nibbled as a snack" idea. Thank you!
