They've announced the songs on John Barrowman's upcoming CD, which will be available in November, called Music Music Music. The title makes me laugh.

The songs are:
    1. What About Us
    2. From A Distance
    3. You'll Think Of Me
    4. I Made It Through The Rain
    5. You Don't Have To Say
    6. Right Here Waiting For You
    7. Uptown Girl
    8. Both Sides Now
    9. Angel
    10. I Know Him So Well
    11. I Am What I Am
    12. Can't Take My Eyes Off You
I am particularly excited about 11 and 12, which are two of my favourites; is "You Don't Have to Say" the Andrew Lloyd Webber song from Jesus Christ Superstar"? I don't know the first five at all, or don't know them by title.

Which brings me to the list of songs I'd like to hear John Barrowman record:
  1. Smoke Gets in Your Eyes
  2. I Will Wait For You
  3. Till There was You
  4. Embraceable You
  5. I Only Have Eyes for You
  6. Put Your Head on My Shoulder
  7. King of the Road
  8. There's No Business Like Show Business
  9. Hey There, from The Pajama Game
  10. The Doctor and I - a variation of The Wizard and I, which he sang in concert earlier this year.
I could go on... and on...

Oh God, JB and I will never share songs on our iPods. Never.

GDL's musical tastes align pretty well with mine, though he's welcome to keep his Debussy.

I wonder about Eve, Burn, and Naoko?

Naoko's tastes would be intersting, since she also is a singer. I wonder if she likes showtunes, as Barrowman does.

How is he going to sing "I Know Him So Well" - by himself or as a duet? It's a great song, but...

I think I will have to wash my mind out after trying to imagine him singing "Uptown Girl", though. I can't think of too many songs that are a worse match! There are lots of other great Billy Joel songs he could cover - "The Longest Time" from the same album seems much better suited if he wants upbeat, and I think he could belt out "Piano Man" pretty well.

We shall see! I can't imagine it... yet.

"Uptown Girl" seems a real anomaly and I can only think that he had something he wanted to do with it.

I'm rooting for "as a duet with himself." *g* It reminds me of this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fmkv42MLNEw) where he appears at one point to be singing to himself.

called Music Music Music

Bit unimaginative, wot?

Okay, will admit to having been spoilt recently by MCR's glorious song titles which very often don't actually appear in the songs. I like that.

No sign of the parcel yet, I suppose? ::crosses fingers::

Yes, but it sounds so like him - the triple usage, the rhythm of it.

MCR's titles are amazing.

No, no sign of the parcel... yet.

(Scanning the horizon hopefully.)

That was my thought - he did the triple exclamation so often on "I'd Do Anything" that it became his "thing."

I can't help hearing it in his voice.

As far as I know "You don't have to say" is not from JCS - I think you think of "Gethsemane - I only want to say" maybe?
"From a distance" is Bette Midler. Beautiful song, but like Memories from Cats sung to death.
Honestly? I really love John and of course I'm going to buy it, but I was a tad disappointed with "Another Side" - not essentially with the choice of songs but the arrangements were mostly so... easy-listening? I think he deserves better. Hopefully this *will* be better.
But... John! "Uptown Girl"??? That's either going to be exceptionally good or a complete fail... *lol* Well, we'll see. At least there *are* CD releases! *patiently waits for the Christian Kane album and glares in direction Columbia Records*

"You don't have to say" is not from JCS

No, I think it's something different entirely. I'm sure I can find out with a little research.

I was a tad disappointed with "Another Side", too. The arrangements were sort of... uninspired... and the songs themselves were not favourites. Some of them I used to dislike - and have come to like them with Barrowman singing them, which just shows how skewed my judgement is! Still. I'd much rather hear him singing showtunes or just... better songs.

And when I saw he had "Uptown Girl" on the list I did my best impression of the Doctor saying, "What??!!" Or maybe even his patented phrase: "That's impossible!"

Hope you don't mind my commenting.

First *squee* I love that John and I are almost the same age because it means we like so many of the same songs.

Second, for some reason they cut off half the song title - You Don't Have To Say is You Don't Have To Say You Love Me, most famously recorded by Dusty Springfield but there is also a lovely version by Elvis (if you like Elvis - I do sometimes and this is one of those times).

From A Distance was recorded by Bette Midler a few years back.

I would say he would do I Know Him So Well as a solo - I have a CD of Elaine Paige's where she does the same and it's a lovely recording. I think she may have changed a line or two so it worked better as a solo and there were background vocals for the "Wasn't it good/wasn't he fine?" parts but it worked for her, I'm sure it would work as well for John.

And I believe the first one is the one Gary Barlow wrote for John.

Of course not - delighted you dropped by.

You Don't Have To Say is You Don't Have To Say You Love Me

Oh! suddenly it all makes sense to me. Duh - I didn't twig. I should have: I like that song.

I can hardly wait to hear it.

4. I Made It Through The Rain is Barry Manilow, one of his bigger hits from the early 80s.

Good title.

As soon as I have a moment, I'm going to look up all of these.
