fajrdrako: ([Torchwood] - Jack)
[personal profile] fajrdrako

After a mild, rainy week, we woke up this morning to freezing rain. In the time it took me to come to work, it went from freezing rain to hail to rather nice fluffy snow.

Not, you understand, that we need any more snow.

We've got it anyway.

Winter in Ottawa is an ongoing adventure.

I don't mind! :D I'm responsible for [livejournal.com profile] coffeemagic/[livejournal.com profile] hofficoffi. What about youuu?

*bouncebouncebounce* [profile] singchristine. Also, [personal profile] stolehispurse. And [personal profile] pinkhairedauror/[profile] littlemorelove. And I'm working on apping a Torchwood OC, so I might get to play with you lot a bit more...

Ohh! We've interacted a bit already, then. :D Nice to meet you proper!

And hey, if the OC happens (or even it doesn't, I suppose), Ianto is always available for RP.

From: [identity profile] kikibug13.livejournal.com
*nodnod* we have! And I love your writing!! Wotcher, I'm ... er. Kalina. LOL

That OC needs a bit of clearing up, 'cause it was my very first muse, and now upon revisiting her, I've made her rather Mary Sue-ish, and I want to clear that up before I app her for [profile] relativespace. She'll be around on sixwordstories too. Um... yeah, one of these days I'll get in touch with you to see if she should have some common back story with Ianto.

Oh, and re the same journal on two writing comms? You shouldn't have worried. It's a normal practice actually; that way people can keep track of their writing, focusing it. Tonks is on... four writing comms (TM, thetenspot, and two others in that model), several fics-comms that are Tonks or Remus/Tonks oriented, and any number of RP comms. I found [personal profile] rude_not_ginger's way of labeling and tagging entries by comms / timelines very convenient.
BTW? I may have mentioned it before, but your Ianto - having read work from both journals - ROCKS!

Hi, Kalina! I'm Zara. Thank you for your many kind words! :)

Well, I know that some people do it, and I did debate for a while before deciding to do seperate journals. I think I could have gone either way.

I save my WIPs in private posts, so it is nice to be able to spread them out-- rather than having to wade through a whole slew of private posts on one journal! Part of it was RP, too-- one of my RP partners was getting jealous/upset at the prospect of me joining Realms and RPing with a different version of her character... And less drama is always good, so...

And re: [livejournal.com profile] sixwordstories, I've slowly been throwing my lesser-played Who muses in that direction, so you may run into others as well. XD

Hee! <3

*nodnod* I usually do the WiP's on Google Documents (that one makes beta'ing, when necessary, also easier, because the other person may edit the document, and then I can run 'compare versions' and see what they changed), but I get what you mean. I don't do many private posts, actually, just... rare stuff I want logged but not necessarily shared. On the other hand, I have any number of posts that are visible to just one or two other journals... lol

And yeah, I get the part about RP partner jealousy/upset. I did a second Tonks journal because of that (but THAT journal for now stays away from writing comms. On the other hand, she's already in for a trip on the TARDIS to the Tammys...) so yeah, that makes a lot of sense. Not many of the RP'ers actually get jealous like that. Especially not many in the Who'verse, not with about seven versions of Ten (I have a muse who has spoken with FOUR) and any number of other reincarnations, it's a bit odd for, say, Martha to stick to one Ten and ignore all the rest... Not impossible, just odd, not when they start talking to her.

OHHH!! Ah... Does one Harriet Jones happen to be yours? *was so excited to see her, and yes, I was tracking that thread, cause! MJ and Meg and onlysayinghello's mun just rock...*

Oh, hey, I never even thought of using Google Documents that way, but that makes a great deal of sense. So far I just have a rather informal beta, but I'll keep that in mind, thanks!

Yeah, I can see how the Doctor alone makes RP-exclusivity difficult! For me, I enjoy being able to branch out and interact with more people without being worried that someone will get upset.

... Wow, you're good. Yes, she's mine.

hee! Google documents make my life easy - I can use folders according to muses, dump all WiP in a folder and then as things get finished, I just remove it from that folder and it only stays in the muse / comm folder... *hearts* I even have a document with all the prompts for thetenspot, so when I pick a new muse, I can go over it and make lists - it helps to get to know new pups, at least for me. Yeah, and also GDocs have a word count - I don't rely on it, because I tend to type the html code as I go (italics, bolding, etc.) but I can have the general idea, and I like that too. Yeah, gdocs just makes things nice. Of course, I have to have what to write... lol But with the main muse, and, well, more than 15 altogether, I rarely find myself staring at a screen with nothing to work on. ;)

*nodnod* I love having fun with different versions of a muse - that way I can explore the relationship from more aspects. 's good fun!

AAh! lol thanks. Harriet Jones made me bounce and squee - She was SPOT ON!!!
And, um. I mod/co-mod our HP comms, so for administrative purposes I had to grow into 'fishing out' which muses belong to the same player. For the record, I wouldn't have guessed if you hadn't mentioned less-used DW muses - and the common thread I saw was being absolutely in-character. Aaah! *loves* I should get around to doing something about organising myself and having more time for playin'. Not that I don't spend all day on the journals, just...

Wow! I don't have much to say in response, except that that all sounds very convenient...! More often than not I find myself writing directly into LJ.

Oh, yes! In particular, I've played Ianto with several Jacks-- and in each one, we've played out a slightly different take on the relationship. And all the Doctors are fun-- especially because I have one 'verse in which Ianto is travelling with Nine.

I'm really pleased to hear that, actually. I adore Harriet Jones and should really let her out some more. I almost didn't have her comment because I haven't played her all that often and was worried I didn't have her characterisation done. I also have an Ainley!Master that I bring out occasionally (though I worry about ICness a lot), a Joan Redfern, Alan Jackson from SJA, a Dalek (really), a Heavenly Host...

Date: 2008-01-13 12:33 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kikibug13.livejournal.com
^_^ it is. I used to write directly in LJ, and I still do for shorter posts, but after a couple power outages (losing a looong thing) and a couple of times when LJ just ate my posts (partly the fault of the browsers, but still). lol No, I'm not trying to 'sell you' Google documents. Much as it may seem that way! ;)

*nodnod* Tonks has interacted with about four versions of Remus. It's a LOT of fun. Two of them mainly - and there is another Tonks who is playing with both. The more, the merrier. And yeah, all versions are different, although it's really awesome when you get to a point where the two versions actually ... come out similar, on a point that is not settled in canon. Oh the fun!

Harriet Jones - both Reinette and Ten's muns were DELIGHTED when she showed up, I was on AIM with both. <3
*nods* I am not much into Classic!Who yet, so can't say much about Ainley!Master's being IC, but I have no doubt; Joan... I actually kind of hated her in the episodes, which doesn't mean I didn't feel FOR her yet... Odd one. I haven't seen SJA (yet), but there are a few SJ's floating around, I'm sure he'll be welcome. Daleks spook me out (really!) but I'd love to see yours, just so. (Can he make an appearance at the Tammys? ;) ) And HEE! Does that last one react when you snap your fingers at him?

I like Google documents and I use it all the time - mostly because I can access it from work, home, and other people's computers. But it also makes me uneasy because it's someone else's turf, and they say somewhere that Google claims rights to all the material there. Now, this is a moot point, since I'm not using my own characters anyway, but it makes me uneasy on principle.

I'm delighted to hear you say you hated her in the episodes, because I heard a lot of fans saying how much they loved her, and I didn't like her at all. I thought I was the only one. I did like her relationship with the Doctor, though. (With the Doctor, at the end. Not with John Smith.)

The thing is, Joan was so conventional, so lacking in all the things I love in Martha or Rose - including a sense of adventure - that I found her hard to sympathise with. She was so happy with a mundane life she didn't see other possibilities. And she was so... she loved John Smith, but I thought she patronized him, and she didn't want to see the larger personality that was the Doctor, because in getting to know him, she would have to change and grow, and she didn't want to do that.

I think that if I was planning or aspiring to publish any of my work, that would make me very uneasy too. But even the poetry, it's just for my own need that I write.
I think any, any electronic carrier is potentially vulnerable that way. Including e-mails... and, of course, LiveJournal. Even private entries. *shrugs* I've got to trust people someway, I guess?

Heh, yes, I didn't much like Joan at all. And, even though I hated how she purposefully hurt the Doctor, and she knew she was going to, that actually was also made of win, because not all humans can fall before his... overwhelming personality.
But seriously, if there is one character about which I get your point of 'not liking a character because I see too much of me in them, the wrong things'? It's Joan. I absolutely cannot put my finger on why I feel that way either...

But you also have a point, she's taking a passively dominating position with John Smith, and it's... unfair. (On the other hand, he's 3 months old. He's practically a child. ... from her PoV, that makes sense. Alas.)

I do that too. It's handy, and fairly easy to keep track of it all.

it helps to get to know new pups

Could you remind me what a 'pup' is? I keep getting confused by the terms! A mun is a writer, right?

GDocs have a word count

They do? WHere? I've been counting words by cutting and pasting into Word. It would be much easier not to have to do that. Where do I find the GoogleDoc word count?

Pup = muse/character... ;)

And the word count is in the file menu (when you open the document), the fourth option when you go up from the bottom.

Thank you. I was so embarrassed to have to ask you (especially since I think I asked you before) but I couldn't remember. [Blush]

Haha don't worry at all. I'm still sometimes having trouble with all the terms and nuances. But? Pup is easy to remember, when you think it comes from puppet. (Well at least I think it does ;) )

The concept I really would have a harder time explaining would be 'meta'.

Muahaha GOOD! Lol Me, I usually type the html code in the google docs (like *<*strike and *<*i , etc., so the word count isn't fully useful except as a general idea; I usually paste the prompt in LJ, then hit preview (ALWAYS! for prompt at least), then copy the text when I'm satisfied with the preview from it, and past that in Word for the count. *shrugs* I'm odd? ;) but yeah, it's good that there IS word count there...

I must look into [livejournal.com profile] rudenotginger's labelling and tagging system. Even with just Aral and Gwen and a limited number of comms, I'm not sure how to keep track of everying.

And I totally agree that the Ianto that [livejournal.com profile] halfspokenwords has on [livejournal.com profile] coffeemagic and [livejournal.com profile] hofficoffi is wonderful. It quite revived my faith and love of muse sites. Her characterization of Ianto is lovely.

(I think I might even love her Ianto more than the one on the show. But he's lovely too.)

[livejournal.com profile] hofficoffi is relatively new. I suppose I don't really need two Ianto journals, but one journal in two prompt communities seemed like an overwhelming proposition. You're welcome to friend!

Aw, thank you-- I adore writing him, but I admit that I'm still surprised when I discover that other people read my prompts/threads! And we really ought to set up some Gwen-Ianto interaction, especially once S2 gets going.

"Need" is not the operative word here. I heartily approve of you having two Ianto journals, because I think you've got just the right tone for Ianto - Ianto as I most love him. And I'm heartily looking forward to Ianto in the coming season. What we've seen in the clips so far is wonderful.

You're welcome to friend!

I intend to do so as soon as I get a moment - as [livejournal.com profile] torchwoodgwen.

I'm still surprised when I discover that other people read my prompts/threads!

Me too.

we really ought to set up some Gwen-Ianto interaction, especially once S2 gets going.

I'd love to. Maybe start with post-show conversations or interactions?
