I found it interesting. Hold on, let me see if I still have the URL. Yes, it's here. A news item about privacy, and whether we have any, or not.

The interesting thing was to see that Russia and the US don't have adequate privacy, but Canada does. I wonder what the difference it. Laws, I suppose - what is allowable and what is not. Safeguards.

I take it for granted that none of us have much, and keep my secrets to myself, and my mouth shut about them.

Usually.

Interesting article (even if it did not include the actual map it describes).

The key phrase for Canada is probably "barely adequate". There are laws on the books (passed while the Liberals were still in power) to restrain government and companies from sharing their information, or prevent them from forcing ordinary people to give out everything. However, the companies are already said to be 'chafing at the bit' about those restrictions.

I don't have a lot of faith in the safeguards - but it's good to know they are there.

I suspect the difference lies among the founding social values of the countries involved. Consider:

Americans are entitled to "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness".

Canadians, to "life, liberty, and the security of the person".

That probably has something to do with it.

I find the differences between Americans and Canadians fascinating, particularly since the rest of the world seems to think we are all alike for some reason.
