Favourite scenes in Torchwood...

Someone asked what my favourite episode of Torchwood was and I was hard put to answer. I love them all, and I think they are all flawed. Generally speaking, I think each episode is better than the one before it, so my current favourite episode is They Keep Killing Suzie. But then, this would imply that my least favourite was Everything Changes, and that isn't true, either! Gwen is so cute in that, how could I not love it?
I definitely love Cyberwoman too.
My favourite scenes:
1x01 - Everything Changes - The conversation between Jack and Gwen on the roof at the end. Runner-up: Jack and Gwen talking in the bar. I also love the brief moments of Yvonne's dialogue.
1x02 - Day One - Proving myself shameless - the "Gwen snogs the alien" scene, and the reaction of the rest of the team to it. Including the follow-up where Gwen says, "I sort of snogged her," and Jack and Tosh reply in unison, "We know."
1x03 - Ghost Machine - The gun room scene. Oh dear - am I running a theme here? I zone in on the sexiest moments? Possibly...
1x04 - Cyberwoman - How to pick? Probably the scene where Jack sticks his gun in Ianto's face and threatens him. Runner-up: when Jack kisses Ianto.
1x05 - Small Worlds - The scene where Jack gives the child to the faeries. Runner-up: his second conversation with Estelle.
1x06 - Countrycide - Gwen interrogating the cannibal about why he did it.
1x07 - Greeks Bearing Gifts - Jack's snarky conversation with the alien before he kills her, when she has Tosh as hostage. Runner-up: his kindness to Tosh after that.
1x08 - They Keep Killing Suzie - The stopwatch scene at the end, and the scene right before it, starting with Suzie saying "Captain, my Captain", or maybe the moment where Jack is standing at the end of the quay looking down at her - followed by the song and the long moment where he and Gwen are just looking at each other. And her red shirt matches his red braces.
Yeah... definitely a theme. And I'm not even blushing.

1x01 - Jack standing on that roof (looking photogenic). Runner-up - Yvonne's dialogue (Yvonne _is_ the police woman whom Gwen asks for help on the search for Jack, isn't she?)
1x02 - I'm right with you on that one. Snogging, the reactions (we should get her out of there - yeah, I mean Yes!), and the aftermath... :)
Oh... runner-up, Gwen throttling Owen and Jack's comment.
1x03 - Gun training. Was that the only reason for that episode?!
1x04 - the Double Snog.
1x05 - Jack mourning for Estelle. Runner-up - the team giving Jack the cold shoulder.
1x06 - Jack bursting in and shooting all the bad guys.
1x07 - Mary, "At least they're consistent! No resentment! No agenda!" (IIRC). Runner-up - Jack feeling Tosh trying to read his mind.
1x08 - The stopwatch scene, including Jack getting to it. Runner-up... Gwen storming Jack's office.
I can't seem to find a common theme. Except a lot of Jack...

Date: 2006-12-08 03:55 pm (UTC)Yes. See why it's so hard to choose?
1x01 Jack standing on that roof (looking photogenic).
Oh yes. So impressive.
(Yvonne _is_ the police woman whom Gwen asks for help on the search for Jack, isn't she?)
Yes, exactly. I loved her!
1x02 Oh... runner-up, Gwen throttling Owen and Jack's comment.
Uh-huh, that was lovely too.
1x03 Gun training. Was that the only reason for that episode?!
Yes, quite possibly.
1x04 the Double Snog
Well phrased. And: yes.
1x05 Runner-up - the team giving Jack the cold shoulder.
Yes. This was a "let's hit Jack when he's down" episode. Poor Jack! As a visual and conceptual item, I really liked the rose-petals in the mouth thing, too. But that wasn't a single scene.
1x06 Jack bursting in and shooting all the bad guys
Oh yes, that was a magnificent moment. He was perfect. Expressions, everything.
1x07 Runner-up - Jack feeling Tosh trying to read his mind.
Yes. I liked most of the Mary scenes, and I liked the moments when we saw her in alien form.
1x08 Runner-up... Gwen storming Jack's office.
Yes, oh yes! Twin acrobats, and Gwen scowling and pacing. Delicious.
A lot of Jack? Nothing wrong with a lot of Jack! I'm with you there. I'm happiest when he's on the screen.

Date: 2006-12-08 04:15 pm (UTC)BTW, re JB's personality - I _was_ right when I thought he cannot be quite ALWAYS so jubilant... He admits himself Like everybody, I get a little depressed sometimes, but that's just my makeup.
I hope it's rarely and only a little, from my heart! (this quote is from the de-lovely story on the barrowmanfans comm.

Date: 2006-12-08 04:23 pm (UTC)He's human after all. I suspected as much. It's nice to have it confirmed.
And actually, he plays Jack's dark and depressed side so well, you have to know he's experienced that too. As everyone has. It's just that he is so exceptionally good at putting on the exuberant persona in interviews and shows where he appears as himself. And obviously he works at keeping spirits up on the set. It isn't just his innate good nature, it's also professionalism.

Date: 2006-12-08 04:26 pm (UTC)Wow. I'm so glad I decided to check out Torchwood. Actually, knowing about JB has brightened up the world a bit, for me. (that sounds very head-high-up-in-the-clouds, I know, but it is. I guess liking actors just to discover they're usual run-of-the-mill Hollywood boys was just getting to me... :) )

Date: 2006-12-08 04:30 pm (UTC)So am I. I was already fascinated by Captain Jack from his scenes in Doctor Who - but I don't think you'd seen those then, had you?

For me too.

I agree absolutely.... Barrowman is so different from the Hollywood standard that it's doubly exciting to see him act - aside from the looks and the talent, of course. He is so generous with his thoughts and his audiences.
Having Torchwood turn out to be a show that's fun to watch and interesting and tied in with Doctor Who, which I love so much, is like a bonus - it was be amazing if the appeal was just John Barrowman, but there's more to it than that as well.
