Christmas morning with [livejournal.com profile] maaseru, [livejournal.com profile] explodedteabag, and Yolande. Theoretically, I got up early to cook the breakfast crepes; but I spent a while reading comics in a lazy fashion, before thinking: Yikes! I haven't done my exercises! I haven't made the crepes! I hope by the time my guests arrived, I looked all soignée and in control.

After breakfast, we opened the stockings, then we opened the other stuff. We maybe went a little overboard. Quality and quantity. I can't even pick out highlights. (Stephen Fry? Pearls? The Cambridge Illustrated History of the Middle Ages in three volumes? - I bet I had the heaviest presents in sheer poundage.) We were laughing and as gleeful as five year olds. In the best possible way. It was wonderful.

So then [livejournal.com profile] explodedteabag and I watched her new DVD about 1930s musicals a little, and [livejournal.com profile] maaseru and Yolande have gone to cook the turkey while I do the rest, except for cutting up the turnip, which became [livejournal.com profile] explodedteabag's job.

I also got distracted reading about Pamela Colman Smith. I think I'll write about her for the apa.

Aaah, what a lovely Christmas, and it's just getting better. The real food is still to come.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone!

Our Christmas dinner was lavish and lovely, and we all ate more than we thought we would. I even managed two helpings of plum pudding with rum hard sauce - how did that happen? Individually, they were small portions, but still.

We'd been planning to go to see the new Sherlock Holmes movie, but none of us felt like moving. So we watched two episodes of the Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes TV show, "A Scandal in Bohemia" and "The Crooked Man". "The Crooked Man" had a canary in the show, and whenever it started to chirp, my Little Feathered Guys started to pay attention and to sing along. They like it when birds are included in the cast. [livejournal.com profile] maaseru were pleased to see (and recognize) Fiona Shaw again.

I watched "The End of Time, Part 1" with trepidation, because I didn't like the previous appearances of John Simm as the Master in Doctor Who, and quite hated "The Last of the Time Lords", and feared more of the same. (It's the only episode on the New Who I really disliked.) But I was up for this one, too, because we just don't get enough new Doctor Who these days.

So...So... )
