fajrdrako: ([Torchwood] - Captain Jack)

To [livejournal.com profile] acampbell:

I hope you have a wonderful day - and a good year of better times ahead, good Smallville stories and episodes, good friends in fandom and out of it, and the happiness you deserve.

Looking on Comic Book Resources to see their news about what's happening next with Torchwood, this caught my eye:
Just flicking through the new "Torchwood" magazine to discover that Paul Grist is drawing the comic strip. That is brave, clever, superb and all round excellent casting. Good call, unknown Titan editorial choice!

I totally love Paul Grist's work.

So: what comic strip is this? Googling for Torchwood and Paul Grist I found some info on hte Forbidden Planet site.

Damn - as far as I know, we can't subscribe to Torchwood from Canada. Grr.

Edit: I talked to Dave at the Silver Snail and he thinks maybe they can get the Torchwood magazine for me. Hooray! Fingers crossed.

Yesterday I watched the Torchwood episode "Capitaine Jack Harkness" in French. It was wonderful, of course, as wonderful as in English, and just as romantic. Sometimes more so. Early in the episode, the 1941 Jack makes a toast to our Jack, which in French comes out as "à vous, mon capitaine" - sounds delicious sexy to my English ear.

Though I didn't catch the word Jack uses when he describes the other Jack as 'hot' and - as I expected - couldn't make out a word of Owen's comment on the tea-boy as Jack's part-time shag. Perhaps [livejournal.com profile] lmondegreen or [livejournal.com profile] josanpq will come to my rescue at some point? Luckily I have many friends who are truly much more bilangue than I.

I watched the first episode of Spooks today - or MI-5, as the American DVD is called. Enjoyed it very much, though for the first half hour or so I had trouble recognizing characters. I liked the way it was an intelligent show, seeming very rational, grown-up and straightforward after Torchwood. And consequently just a touch tame. But 'tame' in a good way.

From April 17, 2008: Suggested by Nithin: I’ve always wondered what other people do when they come across a word/phrase that they’ve never heard before. I mean, do they jot it down on paper so they can look it up later, or do they stop reading to look it up on the dictionary/google it or do they just continue reading and forget about the word?

Any or all of the above, depending on the nature of the book, or the availability of a dictionary or my computer at that moment. Or whether I think I can guess (near enough to make sense of the passage) what it actually means.

If there is someone around at the time, I'm fairly likely to ask, "Do you know this word?" Chances are the person will: I have well-informed friends.

The greatest likelihood is that I'll either memorize the word or the page number and look it up later.

I do love learning new words and phrases.
