Then you would not have liked Winnipeg, where I grew up. Every January, there would be a spell where the temperature would go down to -40 (C or F) and stay there for a while.
... I would have hated it. I start whining about the cold when it gets to 5° over freezing point and don't stop until it hits 10-15°C again. 'm gonna emigrate to a warm warm warm country at some point.
I have no complaints with any temperature that's higher than the freezing point - you don't have to worry about ice, then. And no risk of frostbite. Makes it good for walking. I don't much like extremely high temperatures, either. I've yet to find a place that doesn't get either too hot or too cold, though.
It goes to -40C/F in Ottawa too, in January, usually. At least for a little while. But I think December 8 is too early to be this cold. I object. I'm not ready for this!
I don't think I was ever so cold as I was in England in November.
Thanks for the peek at your weather map - I similed - all those above-freezing temperatures make me envious. And rain! Wonder when we'll see rain again. Looks as if the Netherlands tends to be warmer towards the sea, colder inland... Which I suppose makes sense.
our cold feels rather cold. It is often windy and watery, if it is a nice crisp cold with a bit of sunshine I feel much happier than trough the windy fog.
But the coldest I've been was in Venezuela of all places. It was cold (snowing) we were in the Andes, we had left the rainforest and moved up the mountain and we got wet and sat still basically. And when we got on the top we could "warm up" in a drafty extremely smoky hut where we drank hot sugarreed juice (disgusting).
Then my sister and me got a lift to the next village, my parents had to wait for an other car. I remember sitting in the bathroom of the restaurant, rummaging trough my backpack finding that all my clothes where wet. (And there I was, with my younger sister, speaking little English, without money, not knowing when my parents would show up and only wet clothes. I was much braver then!) Oh so cold.
The worst winter weather I ever lived through was in Ohio where it got down to 25F below zero and stayed there for about a week. Everyone's pipes froze and nobody's cars would start, and it was awful. I cannot imagine going through temperatures like that every winter.
I don't think it's ever been below zero F here in western Washington state in the fifteen years I've lived here. And that's just fine with me.
It doesn't get hot much here, either. We hit 90F about every other year for a couple of days.
I can't put a mood thingy on a comment, but consider this one smug [g].

Date: 2008-12-09 12:19 pm (UTC)There's a dampness to cold in the UK and Europe that makes it seem worse than you'd expect from the numbers.
