I link not because the Sarah Palin prank amuses me but because it's hard to believe, but true.

I read about this in the Telegraph. (http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/toby_harnden/blog/2008/11/02/sarah_palin_gets_pranked_by_canadian_radio_station) Even more surprising is the paragraph where Tony Harden writes:

It's incredible that two comedians could get through to a vice-presidential candidate, though Sarkozy himself is a previous victim. Way back in 1995 I remember writing about the Queen getting tricked in the same way by a Canadian prankster.

I had no idea that Canadians had a habit of doing this sort of thing.

Mind you, there's always Rick Mercer (http://www.rickmercer.com/) who has a TV show about doing things like telling Americans bizarre things about Canada and making them believe them.

Would the Appropriate Authorities not be keeping tabs on this sort of thing by now, given Mercer's history?

Well, Mercer doesn't target celebrities, as far as I know. These guys must have known what buttons to push.
