Does anyone know a good place to download fonts? I'm looking for handwriting fonts and futuristic fonts.

http://dafont.com isn't bad. And I made a font of my own handwriting if you want it, though the spacing's screwy as yet. New at this.

Thanks for the link, I'm browsing!

I'd love the font of your handwriting, if you don't mind sharing. Most of the 'handwriting' fonts I'm finding are actually hand printing; I was looking for script.

http://unfaithful-mirror.net/Trialia1.ttf - if you want to know what it's supposed to look like WITH the correct spacing, here's an example: http://unfaithful-mirror.net/images/fic-bsg-deified1.jpg

It's a lot better than most of what I've been finding.

What a wonderful icon!

dafont.com is hereby seconded. I assume you're strictly looking for legit freeware fonts, or are you willing to take payfont recommendations as well?

From: [identity profile] fajrdrako.livejournal.com
Payfont recommendations would also be good; I may not buy them, but I'd like to know good places to look if I were able to.

Try Canada Type (http://canadatype.com/), Ray Larabie's Typodermic (http://typodermic.com), and the odd Blambot (http://blambot.com/) as well. Typodermic may have supplied the monitor display font seen on JJ Abrams' version of the Enterprise bridge: Korataki (http://www.typodermic.com/73.html). I am not entirely certain of this, though.

Yet.

Check out the Apostrophic Laboratory archives (http://apostrophiclab.pedroreina.net/) while you're at it. The fonts range all over the map, and I think you may find more than a few of them useful for any number of projects.

What a fascinating site! I love it that half the fonts are named after drugs. And they are so interesting. This is a treasure trove - even if just for browsing - thank you!

You're welcome! I'm not sure what I think of the font-naming practice they had back when they were in full flower with their own site, but the Apostrophic Laboratory came up with a lot of great designs. I thought Republika was among the most ambitious of their works, with Komika close behind.

I've been seeing some I just can't imagine in use. I kind of liked the one that was all birds, though.

I highly recommend Chank Fonts, too (here (http://www.chank.com/freefonts.php) for the free ones at their site). (Chank is a type designer most known for his fonts he created for Taco Bell, among others.)

And all of Larabie Fonts are free in TT format if you get them here at My Fonts (http://www.myfonts.com/browse/foundry/larabie/) (myfonts.com). They're a professional design house, and I recommend them highly.

If you're looking for something special, mail me in LJ, eh? Remember, this is part of what I do for a living: I typeset for the "big houses" and so have the ahem wherewithal to find what you need.

dafont.com has loads of both of them. There are quite a lot of fonts based on sci-fi films, too.

Wonderful. I was hoping to be able to get the Torchwood font as well, but apparently no one has yet found or designed it. A few fans have simulated with skills I do not (yet) possess. I love some of the medieval ones - though I notice that some things are called 'medieval' which are from from it. Not surprising.

I'd forgotten about Manfred Klein, and should not have made that mistake! Ditto for much of TypOasis in general, for that matter!

I knew it would be a good idea to ask out loud. I was wasting time searching lesser sites with Google, but you people know the good ones.

It's a measure of how distracted I have been for years ... I used to enjoy browsing font archives (but that was before free TrueType and Adobe fonts came along).

I too appreciate you asking the question.

One has to have time to browse. I haven't done it for years, either.

1001freefonts.com is a good one :)

Though dafont is admittedly probably my favorite.
