I saw this on [livejournal.com profile] dargie's LJ and felt the need to do it:

How to Win a Fight With a Conservative is the ultimate survival guide for political arguments

My Liberal Identity:

You are a Peace Patroller, also known as an anti-war liberal or neo-hippie. You believe in putting an end to American imperial conquest, stopping wars that have already been lost, and supporting our troops by bringing them home.

Me, neo-hippie? No surprise, but not exactly accurate either, being the bookish type. But I don't know what category I'd correct it to.

Frankly, the questions were so American I couldn't get my head around them. My wilful ignorance of American politics sometimes shows. Especially when the word 'liberal' as used by Americans isn't what I mean when I say 'liberal', but I can cope.

Apparently I'm an environmentalist/tree hugger

hmmmm

Doesn't everyone that drives a great big car every day and then goes home to a huge screen tv and many many other items of gadgetry recycle??

ETA you know me well enough to say that in the right tone of voice, right?

Yup: tone of voice noted exactly.

I am a Reality-Based Intellectualist, "also known as the liberal elite. You are a proud member of what’s known as the reality-based community, where science, reason, and non-Jesus-based thought reign supreme." o__O hee

As noted here, I too wound up as:

My Liberal Identity:

You are an Eco-Avenger, also known as an environmentalist or tree hugger. You believe in saving the planet from the clutches of air-fouling, oil-drilling, earth-raping conservative fossil fools.

Take the quiz at www.FightConservatives.com (http://www.fightconservatives.com/Inside-the-Book/What-Breed-of-Liberal-Are-You.html)

And no, I don't quite agree with that definition, as there were frequent times (at least two if not three) when the choice I would prefer was None of the Above.

Congratulations on being hip. (That's the original meaning of "hippie," I understand.) I'd take this quiz but I don't know much more about American politics than you do, and loathe most of what I do know. But I know that fascism is when the government is composed of individuals who each represent one or more known interests/businesses, as in Mussolini's Italy, and America is going that direction very quickly -- the people who call themselves Republicans these days are all for big business and totally against the common people. And Obama isn't in that faction. Keep it simple, huh?

Yeah, simplicity is good, regardless of the subject. As long as we don't make things too simple by missing a key factor. But it's easy to figure Obama=good, his opponents=bad and go with that.

I wish I could simplify like that with our elections - though in my own riding, it's simple, and I don't need to worry about the others.

We vote on Tuesday.

You vote Tuesday? The day after Thanksgiving? Well, good -- at least yours will be over with! I had a rather entertaining day at work, in which part of my job was sorting through the undeliverable bulk business mail (UBBM), which is less than First Class and does not get forwarded if the addresses are bad. Lots of political mail in it. Two local candidates are having a hissy-fit with each other, and I was grinning while reading their stuff as I sorted it into the recyclable bin. I've decided that I should vote for the candidates who have given me the least trouble at work!... which leaves out one of them who has sent at least five separate mailings so far, most of which have not run well in my sorting machine, feh. Jam after jam. Not to mention lots of bad addresses, lots ending up in the recycle-this pile. Actually, that's just my current work-related jest. I'm voting for people whose commitment to the electorate is stronger than their commitment to whatever party they belong to.

And I'm voting for Obama, because McCain owns ten houses and is worth over fifteen million dollars. He has no idea what real people have to face every day. And his ads and his statements have proven that out many times over.

Please wish us luck. I fear for my country's future. And for yours! Long live Canada, home of free thought! Oh -- saw in the paper today that the state of Connecticut has overturned a ban on gay marriages. The state Supreme Court decided that it was clear that "marriage" was one thing and "civil union" was something else, and that separate was not equal. Go, Connecticut!

I live in thanks that the Canadian election process is reasonably short. I don't know how Americans can stand the prolonged bickering.

I like your method of sorting candidates.

McCain has ten houses? Why does one person need ten houses?

Wherever your country goes, ours eventually follows - sort of. So of course I wish you all luck.

Yes, nice about the Connecticut decision.
The state Supreme Court decided that it was clear that "marriage" was one thing and "civil union" was something else, and that separate was not equal.
That is so succinctly put, and so true!

We move ever so inexorably towards sensible behavior!

How do we deal with the prolonged bickering? Myself, I ignore it [g]. I'd hate to have to see all that stuff on tv all day long, ugh. Right now, the facts are falling into place: McCain does not think that the working people are in any trouble, while Obama knows we are; today, I ran across four more unions sending out data to their members about who's pro-labor and pro-working-people -- and it isn't McCain! The Teamsters, the Fire Fighters, the United Mine Workers, and ... actually, two more, but I can't recall them. And all the education unions, I've been seeing. If only people think just a little bit, and trust their fellow voters!

Yeah, McCain has ten houses. I think he likes "things." I don't understand it either.

I still have Alex Munter's mayoral-race sign, from Donna's front yard, up on my living room wall; hope someday he actually wins it. Let time pass! Things will always change!

Yes, that's the best way. Good luck with that!

McCain does not think that the working people are in any trouble

I guess he doesn't grasp the concept of "poverty". Everything's hunky dory and nothing can go wrong, right? Hmm. Sounds like Harper.

Groan. Ottawa politics! I tell you, this city is being run by thugs.
