Birthday...
Sep. 24th, 2008 02:33 pmI love birthdays.
E-mails and phone calls and messages from friends. I turned my back on my desk for a few minutes, and a chocolate bar magically appeared on my chair. I like that kind of apportation. It's a beautiful day, too: I went for a walk at lunch. A walk! Not moving quickly, but ... moving.
Does anyone know of a restaurant in Ottawa where one can order créme brulèe? Besides Carmello's?
My cold is fading. I wish I could say it was all gone. Well, soon. Those obnoxious coughing fits are fewer all the time.

Date: 2008-09-24 08:07 pm (UTC)I hope you find your creme brulee - do you like it with the sugar gone solidified or still bubbling hot?

Date: 2008-09-24 11:38 pm (UTC)I think I like it both ways. (Hmm, funny how often that is my answer to numerous questions.) I would have to sample many examples of both to be sure. I think I like it best when the custard part is really soft and smooth and creamy and not to sweet.

Date: 2008-09-25 02:13 am (UTC)I approve.
I had a nummy one at Don Alfonso's last weekend.
Ooh. Another place to add to my list of potential crème brulée eateries. Good idea.
Going to Quebec City for dessert would be fun. Oh, to have a TARDIS of my own. Or even a Time Agent's wristband.

Date: 2008-09-24 10:46 pm (UTC)I asked a friend of mine -- a restaurant cook, working on his professional chef accreditation -- about the créme brulèe. (He prepared it for folks he invited to a dinner party, about a year ago.) He told me that most good restaurants should have it on the menu, and suggested that since many restaurants now have their menus on line, you might be able to find restaurants just by searching the net.

Date: 2008-09-25 02:11 am (UTC)I did spend some time researching Ottawa restaurants with crème brulée and I am spoiled for choice, though some look rather too posh, French, and potentially expensive. Others look terrific. I may have to try every one of them - though not all tomorrow.

Date: 2008-09-24 11:47 pm (UTC)Alas, my favorite restaurant with creme brulee burnt down last year (and is in the US, so of no use to you, even if it still existed). Someday I need to learn how to make it myself -- what an excuse to get a mini blowtorch! :-)

Date: 2008-09-25 02:07 am (UTC)It's nice and easy to make, but it's such fun to have people make it for me.
Thanks for the birthday wishes.
