[livejournal.com profile] sarahcascade offered interview questions and I took her up on the offer.

1) Okay, they've decided to make the story of your life into a movie and,
*lucky you*, you've got final say over EVERYTHING, including cast and
crew. Who's in it? Who directs? Who writes? Who does the music? Who
writes the novelization?

I pass up the opportunity, though if I went for it I would like to be portrayed by Louise Brooks (see icon). Second choice: Cheryl Tiegs. Third choice: Katharine Hepburn.

But I'm a private sort of person and don't want a movie about me to exist.

Instead, I opt for a biographical movie about Percy Bysshe Shelley, or Lord Byron, or Julius Caesar, or Richard the Lionheart.

I would be consultant on a script by Neil Gaiman. Or James Goldman. or whoever wrote the script of Dangerous Liaisons or even Pirates of the Caribbean, if they're as good as I think they are - it would have to be someone witty and sharp, with an edge.

2) If you could have dinner, date, or hang out with anyone, alive or
dead, who would it be? Why? What would you do?

First choice: Percy Bysshe Shelley. We would have a picnic somewhere in northern Italy - in Tuscany. We would read to each other and discuss science, religion, art, philosophy and politics; and make love.

Second choice: Julius Caesar. I don't care what we would do or where, but sex would be involved.

Third choice: Henry II of England. No, not Byron or Richard I, though they are possibilities. Henry Plantagenet, and I'd just hope I could handle his energy level.

3) Same question, but you're allowed to chose anyone fictional. Who do
you choose, why and what do you do?

First choice: Francis Crawford of Lymond. He would demonstrate fencing for me, and recite poetry, and I would get to hear him sing. He would show me numerous sides of his multifaceted character (from the clownish to the fey to the arrogant to the charming) and would tell me witty anecdotes of his adventures.

Second choice: Lex Luthor - the Smallville version of the character. Again, I would get to see many aspects of his life and personality - the ruthless businessman, the trickster, the charmer, the man who appreciates literature (he would certainly recite some John Donne!), the sensitive thinker, the intellectual warrior. A visit from his father would happen, with some witty, bitter verbal attacks and counter-attacks that might verge on the emotionally twisted - and ideally, his father would flirt with me and I would flirt back. After which Lex could work out a few of those frustrations in the gym.

Third choice: Can I sail away to freedom on a pirate ship with Jack Sparrow?

My discreet failure here to mention many hours of mindless sex isn't meant to rule it out.

4) So. You're a pirate. What pirate job would you have? Fortopman? Cook?
Captain? Deck swabber?

Personal valet to Captain Jack Sparrow. Or, er, personal attendant. Attendant. Yeah, that's the way to put it.

Are you playing on my weaknesses, hmm, with these nice fantasy questions?

5) What're your fitness goals? Why are you working out?

The easy answer: so I can stop being ashamed of my looks.

I want to feel healthy and attractive, if only to my own eyes. I want to weigh 130. I want to have energy to do what I want to do. I want to have normal blood pressure and cholesterol count. I want to resist and eradicate anxiety and depression. I want to be free from candidiasis symptoms and I want to be physically as strong as I can be.

I want to prove to myself that I can do it.

I want to live up to my own standards.

So... does anyone want to be interviewed by me?

Nice interview! It occurred to me as I was reading it that for all the answers I could (and have done) give to the "Who would you choose to eat dinner with?" question, I honestly think I'd choose some of the people I've lost. Bill would be at the top of the list, as well as DD. (The very last time I saw her, Karen and I had dinner with her just before she did the signing in Oak Park. It was wonderful, but I honestly thought there's be more such occasions in the future.) And I'd just bask in having them back for a few hours. It'd be nice.

As far as interviews go, sure. I'll bite. Interview me. *g*

some of the people I've lost

Yes. That was one of the reasons I decided to avoid making answers of people I know (or have known) personally, in real life, and stuck with the fantasy answers. Tovah Hollander would be on my list, for example - and DD of course. And it strikes me that I am lucky that I did have dinner with them on numerous occasions - I can treasure those memories. And of other such occasions with other people I loved who have died or otherwise been lost.

Okay, I'll interview you. Stand by for questions coming up later!

Interview you: okay. I'm enjoying this.

Okay, Hall (can I call you Hall?) - Your questions:

(1) What has been the best thing about fandom for you?

(2) How has your love of history affected your participation in fandom, and vice versa?

(3) If you could, with a magic wave of your hand, change one major thing in your life, what would it be?

(4) Imagine you could have the prefect chef prepare for you the perfect meal: what would it be?

(5) Do you have a favourite fannish artist, and if so, who is it?

Enjoy!

I hang out in the Hall of Two Truths along with my stuck-up cousin Ma'at, but you can call me Sesh ;-)

And I volunteered for this, Cap'n.... Questions courtesy of [profile] user

(1) What has been the best thing about fandom for you?

The sense of community, without question. The acceptance and encouragement I've received, and most of all, the friends I've made. The realization that there are kindred spirits out there, and I'm not a total freak ;-) Validation as a female, too, I think.

(2) How has your love of history affected your participation in fandom, and vice versa?

Hmm....I don't really know if I'm drawn to historical fandoms because of my interest in history...I don't think so. I'm drawn to fandoms because of the characters & the actors, not because of the time they're set in. Having said that, though, once I am involved in a historical fandom, I love reading all about the era, and striving to "get it right" in my fic. I also think that in some ways, writing either historical fic or sci-fi fic is easier (for me at least) than writing in a contemporary fandom, and I wonder if that's a cop-out on my part. Hm... Every time I think about writing in a contemporary fandom, I chicken out. I guess I feel more comfortable putting my characters in another time or place, for some reason. Don't really know why.

(3) If you could, with a magic wave of your hand, change one major thing in your life, what would it be?

It'd be easy to say that I want to be rich (who doesn't?). Money woes are certainly the bigges

It'd be easy to say that I want to be rich (who doesn't?). Money woes are certainly the biggest ones in my life currently, and have been for what seems like forever. But if I was totally honest, I'd wish that I was in a situation where I had family and close friends/significant other nearby or living with, so that I felt I had a loving support system. I'm increasingly depressed about the fact that I will be a solitary and lonely old bat without anyone around who gives a fig what becomes of me, when I need support.

(4) Imagine you could have the prefect chef prepare for you the perfect meal: what would it be?

I love so many different kinds of food! It would have to include lobster. Lots of lobster & melted butter. Avocado/guacamole is another must. Fresh fruit - strawberries & whipped cream, berry creme brulee. Sweet & pungent shrimp. Beef satay with peanut sauce. Donuts! (Me & Homer Simpson!) Notice the dearth of healthy things.. ;-)

(5) Do you have a favourite fannish artist, and if so, who is it?

Even though I'm not a K/S fan, I've always admired Gayle Feyrer's work because I'm kinky enough to love Beardsley. Love the humor & cleverness in her work. I'm also partial to Jean Kluge. Nobody, however, seems to be into doing the actors or fandoms I'm potty over. Sigh...

Oh Doody....

I don't know why I screwed that all up! Feel free to delete that final piece....I tried, but I couldn't. I'm tired, and should be in bed. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it ;-)

The easy answer: so I can stop being ashamed of my looks.

I have always thought your looks quite unique and interesting -- and, yes, attractive.

I want to feel healthy and attractive, if only to my own eyes.

Your motivations are identical to mine, down to the phrasing. A personal opinion of one's own appearance is something that must be respected. (But I still think you're cute, fajrdrako, and deeply resonant with all sorts of intrinsic energies.)

Exotic, too. There's that "Irish" thing coming back again! [g]

Thank you. I know I don't see myself as other see me - of course, no one does!

Hee - no one has ever called me 'exotic'-looking before! I love it. Exotically Irish. (So pleased.)
Bless your scallywag heart.
