Torchwood: Hidden...

Today I listened to the audiobook Torchwood: Hidden, which was good enough that I didn't want to stop listening and pretty much heard the whole thing in one go, on bus rides, and while exercising.
The plot wasn't brilliant but it was fun, Naoko Mori's reading was great, and there was some wonderful suspense. There wasn't much in the way of personal material - such is the way of pro fic - but the characters were nicely characterized, especially Owen and Gwen in their scenes together. I was most amused by seeing Jack arrested for murder, totally outclassing the cops who were interrogating him. And if you like hurt!Ianto, well...!

Naoko's inflections were very good for everyone. Her Gwen was spot on, too. And of course doing Tosh was just too easy for her.

Date: 2008-08-14 06:16 pm (UTC)I've been enjoying Gareth's work for Fantom Films this summer, and I've been greatly encouraged that in none of the stories does he sound like Ianto, or even especially like Gareth-- and in each story his delivery and vocal style is different from the other stories.
Hurt!Ianto... hurt how? :-(

Date: 2008-08-14 06:27 pm (UTC)First, Jack disappears, and Ianto is visibly distraught, fearing something has happened to him, trying repeatedly to reach him on the bluetooth, pacing and worrying. The others persuade him to leave the Hub to work on the case. He finds a multiple murder and then the bad guys try to run him off the road - and succeed in plunging his car over a cliff. He gets out of the car before it lands and blows up, but he's stuck on this cliff with a shard of metal stuck into his back near the spine, and his leg is torn up so he's bleeding badly, and going into shock, and even when the cops come to examine the wreckage of the car, they don't know he's up there on the hill - no one knows but the villains searching for him.
At the end, Jack comes to see him in the hospital as he's recovering and gives him a big forehead kiss.
Ahh, the subtlety of the slash in the pro novels - you need a telescope to see it. Or perhaps you just need to know the show to see it!
