The woman who brought me my Meals on Wheels lunch today looked at the book on my coffee table, and said, "You like murder mysteries?"

I said I did, and I do. But the book was The Murder of Charles the Good, written in 1127 by Galbert of Bruges. I didn't have the heart to explain it was history, not mystery.

Usually the comment I get is "You have so many books!" But she'd been here before, so was probably used to it.

The author to look for on the subject is Farhad Daftary. He actually is an Isma'ili. (Ironically, the Isma'ili are now one of the more amiable, unlikely-to-hurt-anyone groupings in Islam.)

Farhad Daftary

I've made note of the name, thanks.

I have a friend in Ottawa who's Isma'ili, and she's a sweetheart.

Sometimes it's just easier not to explain the full story.

And maybe if you had, she might think you're even more unusual than she already has you defined as.
