I was taking a peek at a site talking about Wiscon, out of curiosity. This caught my eye:
I was made incandescent with rage over academic elitism and incited to reactionary judgments by a panelist’s subjective experiences with Tolkien.
Tolkien, pro or con - always a nice topic for a controversy!

Also intriguing:
Today I attended my favorite panel so far. The discussion on hard sci-fi and on why lists of hard SF authors rarely include women was absolutely riveting, with brilliant panelists and an engaged crowd.
Okay, that sounds worth hearing - but what did they say?

Reminds me of something I was listening to on CBC radio a couple of days ago: an interview with women in Hollywood about why women make up only 16% of those in the film industry and only 26% in the television industry - and want to bet that's concentrated somewhat on daytime and 'women's' shows? The main topic was how all the big blockbuster movies (except Sex and the City) are made for boys and men - which I don't think is entirely true, I would have said the Indiana Jones was on the gender-neutral side, on the whole. But... that might reflect the circles I move in.

The movies I want to see just don't get made. I'm not holding my breath.

But before I get all excited, what the hell is happening in the third icon from the left, top row, on your Professionals icon page?

Ahhahaha! You *have* to get into the Professionals. Ah, a fresh, innocent mind to corrupt. :))) It's the slashiest show ever made. With plenty of het as well. The third form the top icon is an episode where Shaw's character is undercover (snerk) with this female cop - So they *have* to sleep together, right? To be convincing and all. ;-)

"Comfort" is a show favorite - the Lads are having the stuffing kicked out of them by their trainer and Shaw gets spun off into Collins's waiting arms.

Search for "professionals shaw" at YouTube and get a taste of what you are missing. HERE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dVzbBBIXkEg) is a sampler of favorite moments.

Not "corrupt". Enhance. Entertain. Improve. Entice...

It's the slashiest show ever made.

I'm trying to think of something slashier. Hmm. No, you're right.

I love that scene!

Nice YouTube clip. I didn't remember "Can I have a clean glass?" - perhaps I should be watching Pros again all over. There was a time I had just about every word memorized!

You *should* - And now would be the perfect time... Several of us in the middle of watching one episode a week ("live", at it's original air time) and then posting reviews. Info and weekly reviews at [livejournal.com profile] the_safehouse. We are mid-season two right now.

...Which just goes to show I should be paying more attention. I'll check that out. What episode are you doing this week?

We are using Dave's episode list HERE (http://www.personal.u-net.com/~carnfort/Professionals/epslist.htm#list)and will be watching Blind Run this Sunday at 9pm London time. So, actually, we are at the end (almost) of season two.
