Battlestar Galactica: He That Believeth In Me (4x01)

maaseru and maaboroshi got sushi from Bento Sushi (the best sushi I've ever tasted) and we settled in to watch Battlestar Galactica. It felt like a very long time since we'd seen an episode. I guess it has been.

I'm not sure if it's because of the gap between episodes, but though I enjoyed watching, and thought it well written, the things I most love about the show weren't much in evidence. Mostly, Starbuck seemed out of character... and her character has had so many variations and permutations that it's becoming difficult to say what would be "in character" for her.

I was bugged by the moment when it appeared that Tigh shot Adama: that seemed gratuitous.

The problem is, the humans-as-Cylons plot is so off the wall, and the "Starbuck finds earth" has so little context, that the plot is losing me. It's like random happenstance: I'm sure it all means something, but it isn't the kind of story where you can try to outguess the plot or anticipate the theme. It's more like "what will happen will happen" and "I'm sure there's an explanation for all this, but I don't know what" - and just hope it isn't somebody's dream.

Except for the Baltar scenes, I wasn't sure what the viewpoint was supposed to be. I did rather like the Baltar scenes, especially since we have his Six back again. And what is she up to? Nothing good, I'm sure!

In the middle of watching an intense scene my doctor phoned me - at 7:45 p.m. The information they sent her from the hospital didn't say much more about my foot than I already know. At least she could and did renew my prescription for painkillers.

Lunch was a lovely soup made from the leftover chicken that auriaephiala brought over last night.

And what else did I do? I slept and slept and slept. How many hours in the day can one person sleep? Olympic-class sleeper, that's me.

But a person can take a little time off from a heavy regimen of sleep-practice to read a little fanfic, hmm? I'm feeling the need for some good Jack stories....

When I first got back from the hospital there was only one piece of fanfic I was able to reach from my perch on the sofa. So I read it over and over and over... Just because I could.

Shall we see if I have the energy to write a drabble or something? That might be fun.

And I can try, even if I end up just sort of writing it in my sleep.

Yeah. Even when I don't consciously practise sleep, it sneaks up on me and hits me on the back of the head and two hours later I'm thinking, "Hmm? Did I fall alseep again?"

I started reading one of the new Torchwood novels, absolutely loving it... and fell asleep in the first chapter.

Not fair. Just necessary.

It's true, the book will not be over too soon. I do remember the first chapter, though I might read it again just because it was fun. Funny that the bits I remember best have Jack flirting with people.

One of the things I really like about Jack is his ability to make people smile, or to feel good, just by being so sincerely charming to them - focussing his attention on them, just briefly, the way he does.

Yeah. It's a lovely trait and I believe it is the reason why he is so sexy himself - because he is so open about his appreciation and his sexuality. Yay.
