I'm not sure if it's because of the gap between episodes, but though I enjoyed watching, and thought it well written, the things I most love about the show weren't much in evidence. Mostly, Starbuck seemed out of character... and her character has had so many variations and permutations that it's becoming difficult to say what would be "in character" for her.
I was bugged by the moment when it appeared that Tigh shot Adama: that seemed gratuitous.
The problem is, the humans-as-Cylons plot is so off the wall, and the "Starbuck finds earth" has so little context, that the plot is losing me. It's like random happenstance: I'm sure it all means something, but it isn't the kind of story where you can try to outguess the plot or anticipate the theme. It's more like "what will happen will happen" and "I'm sure there's an explanation for all this, but I don't know what" - and just hope it isn't somebody's dream.
Except for the Baltar scenes, I wasn't sure what the viewpoint was supposed to be. I did rather like the Baltar scenes, especially since we have his Six back again. And what is she up to? Nothing good, I'm sure!
In the middle of watching an intense scene my doctor phoned me - at 7:45 p.m. The information they sent her from the hospital didn't say much more about my foot than I already know. At least she could and did renew my prescription for painkillers.
Lunch was a lovely soup made from the leftover chicken that

And what else did I do? I slept and slept and slept. How many hours in the day can one person sleep? Olympic-class sleeper, that's me.

Date: 2008-04-08 06:00 am (UTC)You ask, how much can a person sleep? In certain cases, as long as you are sleeping now. You have a new "normal," temporarily. This is right for you, and your being pretty much without external constraints on your time (no job to attend to, no other real schedule to which you must, must adhere) is allowing your body and psyche to seek out exactly and precisely the amount and quality of sleep that they both and each need.
I know it's an odd thing -- I know it must seem to be an odd thing, to you, and I hope you are not becoming worried about it? It's okay. This is what happens when your body sustains a series of traumas: your fall and injury, and then the delay without direct treatment, and then the surgery, and then the beginnings of needing to start learning to cope in quite unfamiliar ways.
The lab is closing, now, and I cannot even read your BG stuff, ai, the pain of it lances through me...!
But, yes. A person can indeed sleep nearly all the hours in a day, and end up (sometimes) awake and quite lucidly conscious at the oddest, most unexpected times of the clock... and it's pretty much natural. The big question is: how do you feel? Listen to that. It'll be your guide.
Good dreams! (or none at all! hee)

Date: 2008-04-08 12:07 pm (UTC)My incredulity about all the sleeping is not really lack of understanding of the process, or even surprise. It's a rhetorical stupefaction that makes the reality more palatable by questioning it. I know I have to sleep, and I'm sleeping. It just still feels unnatural. Of course, one wouldn't want my current lifestyle to be natural.
And yes, it's also natural for my sleep schedule, such as it is, to look unusual, because normal sleeping times and normal waking times are mixed up together. So I was up and online from midnight to two, then slept from two to 8. And I woke up without pain. Not bad, eh?

Date: 2008-04-09 04:08 am (UTC)Oh, wonderful. So much I could say about that... you're in balance, you are healing very well indeed, you are in sync with what your body needs and it is doing what it has to. Good.
My incredulity about all the sleeping is not really lack of understanding of the process, or even surprise. It's a rhetorical stupefaction that makes the reality more palatable by questioning it.
What an interesting sentence. Quite a concept. I applaud your self-awareness. And, clearly, you are not brain-fogged by the pain medication, for not only could you not have articulated this (I don't think) had you been, but you also probably could not really have thought it so clearly. I sound like I'm judging; I don't mean to sound that way.
By all means, continue to remain amazed by how much you are sleeping, and continue to deeply enjoy all the sleep you end up getting. You are a content spectator to your own process, I see. This will probably work very well!
Still pretty funky to know that I could have turned off the computer and then phoned you [g]... then again, you say you slept from two till eight, and two was when I switched off the computer. Good thing I didn't wake you!

I['m not sure. In some ways my drugged mind felt very clear. As clear as ever. At little more inclined to metaphysics than usual, perhaps.
And a few weeks ago I was thinking, "If only I could have lots of time off just to sleep and sleep and sleep for weeks." Beware what you wish for!

Date: 2008-04-10 07:57 pm (UTC)Mia kara, you are so right. As recently as January and February I had been frustrated with the slow progress I'm making in getting my book material all organized, between working five days a week and otherwise being too worn out by that & the commutes to be able to get up for doing anything with the book material... and I let the thought wander through my mind, "If I broke my leg, I'd have a good four months just to write."
YIKES!!! Don't ever think those thoughts!!!
Knock wood, toss salt over my left shoulder, spit on the ground, whatever it takes: erase previous wish! ...Aahhh, better now.
(Gonna get much writing done, lady? hee)

Date: 2008-04-10 08:32 pm (UTC)Nope! For one thing, it doesn't work. Yeah, I can sleep as long as I want or need to, but the foot saps the energy. It gives me freedom to sleep - no more.
And a high price to pay!
So: let's thank the fates for what good health we have, and find other ways of sorting out our problems.

Date: 2008-04-11 02:00 am (UTC)(In the meantime, I'm still envious of how much you can sleep [g].)
Yesterday, when I intentionally slept in, I had three cats on me when I finally woke up. The big grey guy was at my right, the little grey white-footed sister was cuddled up against my leg, and the little tiger white-footed sister was -- she is so talented -- curled in a ball on my ribs, as I was lying on my side. She seemed quite content there, too. Nice company.

Date: 2008-04-11 02:34 am (UTC)I can understand that, but really, it's pretty dull. It's nice. It's peaceful. It's cozy and comforting. But .... boring.
Your cat haven sounds cozy, too!

Date: 2008-04-11 03:09 am (UTC)They give me my little niche of safety and comfort. ...And, I am their little niche of safety and comfort!
I told you about the little mouse that Fog caught, yes? Or did I? I stepped over to put laundry from the washer into the dryer, and he was crouched at the edge of the door... so I patted him... and then, when I turned on the dryer and stepped away, he dashed past me at the corner of the dryer and -- squeeksqueeksqueek!!! and then he trotted off towards the kitchen, with a small mouse clearly in his mouth. They played with the poor thing for an hour or more. I think it then got eaten -- I never found any of it lying around, anyway. Mighty hunter! This was about two and a half weeks ago. I think.

Date: 2008-04-11 03:18 am (UTC)The mice come inside through the dryer vent, and the cats are there in part to keep them from taking over the place. See, there is an opening to the crawlspace under the house, where the mice and any other critters are welcome to take shelter out of the cold and damp... just don't come traipsing into my house, please.
yeah, I think budgies and cats are a bit different, on this. Although, if you pressed them, you may find that they still remember a little bit of it from those pterodactyl genes that are buried in them...!

Date: 2008-04-08 12:18 pm (UTC)But a person can take a little time off from a heavy regimen of sleep-practice to read a little fanfic, hmm? I'm feeling the need for some good Jack stories....
When I first got back from the hospital there was only one piece of fanfic I was able to reach from my perch on the sofa. So I read it over and over and over... Just because I could.
Shall we see if I have the energy to write a drabble or something? That might be fun.
And I can try, even if I end up just sort of writing it in my sleep.

Not fair. Just necessary.

's pretty, isn't it? *shows it off*
