Movie question...
May. 12th, 2008 08:38 pmWhat is the funniest movie you have ever seen?
So we were wondering what the funniest movies we've seen are. Not necessarily the best, but.... things that made us laugh. In and Out made the grade, and Four Weddings and a Funeral.
What else is very funny?

ALSO PRETTY FUNNY:
Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead
The Jerk (shut up)
Ed Wood
The Pink Panther
My humor brows are fairly low, as you can see.

Date: 2008-05-13 01:08 am (UTC)A classic eighties comedy that I love is Clue. Yes, it's based on the board game. Yes, it's a comedy. I love it.

Date: 2008-05-13 03:03 am (UTC)And what a very good title it is.
Clue
I used to love playing Clue. Haven't seen the movie. Okay, I'll make a point of it!

O Brother, Where Art Thou
Galaxy Quest
Hm. Those are all pretty random and dissimilar. I'll take comedy any way I can get it, though.

Date: 2008-05-13 03:20 am (UTC)Hotel New Hampshire -- in places. Blazing Saddles, high praise. Silent Movie, also by Mel Brooks. Sleeper by Woody Allen. Shrek, and the second Shrek, also -- I have not seen the third one, so can't say. But the first two are wonderfully funny.

Date: 2008-05-13 03:25 pm (UTC)When something tickles me... Yeah. Well, that's good. I think laughing is a really good thing. Good for health and spirit.
Hotel New Hampshire - is that Neil Simon, or am I confusing it with something else?
I haven't seen the second Shrek. Funny, yes, though I'm not fond of the animation. Perhaps I should watch it with my eyes closed? No, too much of it is visual. Maybe I'll just watch.

Date: 2008-05-13 04:34 am (UTC)I like "Hot Fuzz," too. It's fun and witty and will never be arrested for loitering. "Kate & Leopold" is funny in its own way. But, the most quoted comedy I hear is "Monty Python's Holy Grail." It's not possible to say the word, "shrubbery" without a snickering chorus of "Ni!"

Date: 2008-05-13 03:29 pm (UTC)...Danny Kaye, right?
Shrubbery: yes!

Date: 2008-05-13 05:34 am (UTC)Ninotchka
Strictly Ballroom
anything Peter Sellers
Payback
My Big Fat Greek Wedding (I'm related to half those characters...it's like they took the Ukrainian family and the Italian family and split the difference)
And the funniest scene of all time is from the old Tom Jones movie starring Albert Finney. Squire Weston is so drunk he tangles his reins up and spins the horse around so many times it topples right over, with him on it. I have no idea how they filmed it without killing anyone, but that is my #1 hysterical, laugh till you cry movie moment.

Date: 2008-05-13 03:30 pm (UTC)I remember Tom Jones as being very funny, but that was a long time ago. Must see it again....
Thanks for the suggestions.

Isn't it great to hear what people suggest?

Date: 2008-05-13 09:44 am (UTC)Monty Python and the Holy Grail and the Life of Brian are both absolutely hilarious and my two fave funniest films ever. I particularly adore the psuedo-biblical bits in the Life of Brian (the Sermon on the Mount is possibly my all time fave scene; there's just something so... *python* about 'Blessed are the Cheesemakers'.) And then there's the Knights of Ni, Tim the Enchanter, Castle Anthrax and Patsy out of the Holy Grail. Love it!
Um, quite like some of the earlier Steve Martin films - the Man With Two Brains, All of Me and the Jerk.
Nuns on the Run also makes me giggle as does Hear no Evil See no Evil.
Arsenic and Old Lace and Some Like it Hot for classic stuff

Date: 2008-05-13 03:34 pm (UTC)Well, it's about time someone did, isn't it?
Wonderful suggestions, thank you!

Date: 2008-05-13 11:12 am (UTC)Hm, what else...? Oh of course. "Dead men don't wear plaid", the black and white one where the PI interacts with scenes from classic movies? "Cleaning Woman" is the running gag... *lol*
And an absolutely cute romantic comedy is "Her Minor Thing", which I only saw at first because Christian Kane is in it (surprise...*lol*), but it's sweet and lovely and had me giggling the whole time.

Never heard of "Top Secret".
Thanks for the comments!

Date: 2008-05-13 03:18 pm (UTC)Well, I am old enough. I saw that when it first came out - and not since! I remember it as being totally hilarious and I really, really like Alan Arkin.

Thanks for adding to the list.

Benny and Joon (Johnny Depp chanelling Buster Keaton)
