What is the funniest movie you have ever seen?

[livejournal.com profile] maaseru and I were talking about how much we laughed with Death at a Funeral, and I was saying that I don't generally watch comedies, and she was saying that I laugh out loud a lot while watching things - something I'm not exactly self-aware about doing.

So we were wondering what the funniest movies we've seen are. Not necessarily the best, but.... things that made us laugh. In and Out made the grade, and Four Weddings and a Funeral.

What else is very funny?

Recently, 'The Baker' made me howl until my sides ached.

In the past, 'Arsenic and Old Lace', 'Super Troopers', and 'A Fish Called Wanda' have always made me laugh.

Singin' in the Rain and Arsenic and Old Lace are the first two that pop into my head.

The classic (Peter Sellers) Pink Panther movies have cracked me up since childhood . . .

FUNNIEST:

The Big Lebowski

ALSO PRETTY FUNNY:

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead

The Jerk (shut up)

Ed Wood

The Pink Panther

My humor brows are fairly low, as you can see.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is the most recent movie to have me giggling helplessly. I think just invoking the title means I have to go watch it again.

A classic eighties comedy that I love is Clue. Yes, it's based on the board game. Yes, it's a comedy. I love it.

Soapdish

Hot Fuzz

O Brother, Where Art Thou

Galaxy Quest

Hm. Those are all pretty random and dissimilar. I'll take comedy any way I can get it, though.

I love Singin' in the Rain. It's so long since I've seen Arsenic and Old Lace I don't even remember it, though I know I loved it as a teen - must see it again.

The only one of those I've seen is Ed Wood, which I enjoyed very much. Thanks for the titles!

And what a very good title it is.

Clue

I used to love playing Clue. Haven't seen the movie. Okay, I'll make a point of it!

The only one I've seen in this list is Galazy Quest, and yes, it's terrific. No, wait, I saw O Brother, Where Art Thou too. So - thanks for reccing the others.

I think What's Up Doc? is pretty darn classic. Also, mm, Harold and Maude, UHF, The Tall Guy, Stiff Upper Lips . . . and I second the motion for Hot Fuzz. I'll probably have more if I think about it properly, though, given I definitely like comedies.

(And I totally laughted straight through Death At A Funeral. Absolutely.)

Yes, you do laugh out loud when you feel it. I don't notice this much, as I enjoy your laugh so.

Hotel New Hampshire -- in places. Blazing Saddles, high praise. Silent Movie, also by Mel Brooks. Sleeper by Woody Allen. Shrek, and the second Shrek, also -- I have not seen the third one, so can't say. But the first two are wonderfully funny.

Others have already mentioned Hot Fuzz, Raising Arizona, The Big Lebowski... for a guilty pleasure that I wouldn't want anyone to see me taking out of the video store, Little Nicky!

Uncle Buck. But it may be an inside joke thing, because my dad is Uncle Buck. Like, down to the cigar, car and look.

Also: Beerfest.

I love "The Court Jester." The routine: "The pellet with the poison's in the vessel with the pestle; the chalice from the palace has the brew that is true . . . " is right up there with "Who's on first?" That is from the movie "The Naughty Nineties," with Abbott & Costello.

I like "Hot Fuzz," too. It's fun and witty and will never be arrested for loitering. "Kate & Leopold" is funny in its own way. But, the most quoted comedy I hear is "Monty Python's Holy Grail." It's not possible to say the word, "shrubbery" without a snickering chorus of "Ni!"

I just watched this last week. My mother-in-law and I laughed hysterically, but the men didn't seem amused.

Oooh, I might have to make a list...

Ninotchka
Strictly Ballroom
anything Peter Sellers
Payback
My Big Fat Greek Wedding (I'm related to half those characters...it's like they took the Ukrainian family and the Italian family and split the difference)

And the funniest scene of all time is from the old Tom Jones movie starring Albert Finney. Squire Weston is so drunk he tangles his reins up and spins the horse around so many times it topples right over, with him on it. I have no idea how they filmed it without killing anyone, but that is my #1 hysterical, laugh till you cry movie moment.
