fajrdrako: ([Torchwood] - Jack)
[personal profile] fajrdrako

I went out today with [livejournal.com profile] maaseru - for food, to the bank and the post office. Saw the most gorgeous huge blooming white lilac by the canal - utterly beautiful. Flowers everywhere.

Before that, I watched the episode of Ready Steady Cook that had guest stars John Barrowman and Denise Van Outen. My goodness: that man is funny. Loved hearing him sing "De-Lovely" while cooking. And the show made me hungry. Looks delicious. Ostrich with mango? I'm there. And like Barrowman, I don't like curry.

Even better: He said he'd be working on Torchwood next year, which is the first I've heard for sure of its continuation. Has there been an announcement that I missed? This is good news indeed. Something different, he said. (Semi-confirming the miniseries rumour?)

I really liked episode of RSC with David Tennant and his dad.

That's the only other episode I ever saw! And yes, it was great. I really liked Tennant's father.

Sandy McDonald (and Tennant's mom, whose name I've forgotten) also appear in DT's episode of the BBC series "Who do you think you are" (which aired in 2006, I think) and in the Dr Who video extra (or whatever they're called) for the Christmas invasion (or the previous one? Whichever one introduced #10).

Interesting! I haven't looked at the extras on the DVD set yet. Looking forward to that.

You got outside! And found the air pure perfume, I'll bet. At least here and there. Rediscovering spring as a magical time of year... it never gets old for me. My flowering cherry tree, by my front steps, was in its full snowball-puff blossom yesterday, and today the blossoms had begun to flutter to the ground. It's something shocking to glance at the grass and see white all over it, and then realize that it isn't snow -- we are no so far removed from winter that I'm ready yet not to jump to that assumption.

I am so glad that you got out, and enjoyed it. So nice.

This tv show sounds quite fun... is it a celebrity cooking show, then? With different people each time? Ostrich with mango... whoa. Not something I'd ever have thought of on my own.

I think maybe this was the first word on more Torchwood. Just a hunch. But I'd think somewhere someone would have gotten the word out, no?... things like this don't get overlooked, not in this day and age!

And the show made me hungry.

Oh, my. Not like Mr. Trick at the drive-through, I hope.

It was lovely. Very, very warm - because it was so sunny. I kept opening the car window and getting [livejournal.com profile] maaseru's window controls mixed up. At another point - I was leaning against the back window (about to get into the car) at the same moment she lowered the back window - a very peculiar sensation!

is it a celebrity cooking show, then? With different people each time?

So it seems. They have an MC and two chefs and two guest celebrities. Each celebrity and and one chef has to make a meal - for which the celebrity bought the ingredients, costing £10 - in twenty minutes. (Or some such time period.) Then the audience votes who did best. And the celebrities get to eat it. And it looks delicious. Though like Barrowman, I don't much like curry, but Van Outen's curry did look great.

I'd think somewhere someone would have gotten the word out, no?

I've heard rumours. Apparently James Marsters has been asked to come back in series 3, so we'll have Captain John Hart again. Yay! But I've heard nothing official.

Not like Mr. Trick at the drive-through, I hope.

Or eating the pizza deliver boy!

Weren't those great scenes?

You just inspired me to watch it as well and now I'm hungry.

They have an MC and two chefs

The MC is a chef in his own right too - the show used to have a different presenter (who is now married to the chef JB was cooking with) and she wasn't a chef, but when she left they got Ainsley in. I could never watch the shows he did where it was just him cooking because he was so darn cheerful, but I like him on this.

Does this mean you are now into S3? Oooooh, that means you've met Faith!

Oh my goodness, it has that effect, doesn't it? I want ostrich with mango salsa and I want it now! Drooling a little... okay, maybe more for Barrowman than the food, but it's a cumulative effect....

I could never watch the shows he did where it was just him cooking because he was so darn cheerful

Hee. A bit much?

Does this mean you are now into S3?

Yes. I watched ahead a little. Don't want to post about the episodes much faster than I've been doing, but I have some catching up to do.

Oooooh, that means you've met Faith!

Yes. Not impressed by her yet. Does she improve on acquaintance?

I think the mango salsa was with the sea bass - John got mango, something and chilli tart. And that also sounded absolutely scrummy, as did everything that got cooked on it.

Hee. A bit much?

Just a bit *g*. It was tiring just watching him sometimes!

Yes. Not impressed by her yet. Does she improve on acquaintance?

Yes. I think she definitely does. How much have you seen of her yet? I don't want to give things away, but she gets some interesting development. I didn't like her to start with, I think, (though it's a dim memory of seeing these for the first time) but by now she's one of my favourite characters from the series. Hell, Faith even got me writing (mild) femslash recently! Not with Buffy, though their relationship is... intriguing.

Re Faith:

I think she definitely does.

I was suspecting that, since fans obviously like the character and so far she looks to me like a less-interesting carbon copy of Kendra. And I've seen photos of Eliza Dushku where she looks absolutely stunningly beautiful, but Faith doesn't look so good yet. I've seen as far as "Band Candy".

though it's a dim memory of seeing these for the first time

I think I've forgotten most of her first appearance, and I only saw it a few days ago! She joins up with Buffy in a vampire-bashing scene, I think.

Faith even got me writing (mild) femslash recently! Not with Buffy

With who? Anyone I'd have heard of yet?

*boggles* I would have said that Faith and Kendra were polar opposites. In what ways do you find them similar? The only thing I can think of that links them is that they are both reflections of Buffy in some ways - though since Faith gets rather more development than Kendra did, this does not always apply.

With who? Anyone I'd have heard of yet?

With a character from Stargate: Atlantis, so not even in the BtVS universe. I signed up for doing 100 crossovers with SGA and whatever other universes I can think of in January - so far I've only done three, but fortunately there is no time limit!

*boggles*

Heh.

I would have said that Faith and Kendra were polar opposites. In what ways do you find them similar?

Both Slayers. Both mouthy. Both from elsewhere, with no apparent connections in Sunnydale except Buffy. Both acting bold. Both good at fighting, though Buffy seems better. Both on their own, apparently without connections. Both eager to work with Buffy. Exactly the same role int he story. Both with make-up and tight t-shirt.

With a character from Stargate: Atlantis, so not even in the BtVS universe.

Tayla? Elizabeth? (They're the only females I know of in SGA!)

100 crossovers

Woo - scary number. I assume they don't have to be very long?

Hmm. I suppose - I still think that in terms of character they are very dissimilar but I can't really argue it without spoiling you.

Though just from the episodes you've seen
Faith: wildchild, dropout, flip, um what's a word that's stronger than flirty, salacious? uncontrolled fighter, cynical
Kendra: dutiful, focused, socially uncomfortable, technically flawless fighter, scholarly

Both eager to work with Buffy. Exactly the same role int he story.

Actually, I'm not sure I agree with either of those. I don't remember Kendra being eager to work with Buffy. And the roles in the story - I would say Kendra was an antagonist who moved to being an ally and Faith is the stranger with a past that haunts her.

Tayla? Elizabeth? (They're the only females I know of in SGA!)

Teyla. I figured she was a good match for a Slayer.

I'm sure Faith will turn out to be different. I'm just saying that I haven't seen that difference yet - I don't see much characterization to Faith yet at all. She has no background, no story.

I don't remember Kendra being eager to work with Buffy.

No? I thought she admired Buffy (even though she didn't approve of her study habits and her freedom) and enjoying fighting and working with. Gave her Mr. Pointy, after all.

Teyla. I figured she was a good match for a Slayer.

Yeah, I can imagine she would be.

Lilacs are among my favourite flowers, but why they always have to abloom at exactly the same time when flies are beginning to come out? Which remarkably reduces my affection for them. Not their fault, of course:)

This is the first time I've heard for sure of Torchwood's continuation, too.

Glad to hear your leg is well.

And what a beautiful lilac icon you have!

This is the first time I've heard for sure of Torchwood's continuation, too.

It's happy news! I would guess that the 'something different' would tie in with the rumours of a one-story-arc miniseries, though we won't know till we know. Still. Whatever it is, it will be more Torchwood, and that's cause for celebration.

Glad to hear your leg is well.

Thank you! I will be happier when there's no cast and I can walk on it, but meanwhile - minimal pain is a good thing. So I continue to sit around, healing.

I love lilacs! The problem is that the traditional, whippy English ones won't grow in southern Virginia. They rot and die :(

So I have to make due with Korean lilacs. They look a little funny, much more shrubby, and the bunches of blossoms aren't as big. But at least they smell right...and with lilacs, that's all that matters!

What a shame!

Korean lilacs

I looked them up online. Still very pretty.
