[livejournal.com profile] kikibug13 sent me this link to the preview for Torchwood series 2. I would assume from what we see that it's the first few minutes of episode one?

  1. The woman at the crosswalk was fun. Loved her expression.

  2. I wish Ianto had shot the blowfish. It's a great entrance for Jack, but I was hoping the others would be all competent and sharp-witted this season. I guess not. Still, Owen's shot from the car was fun.

  3. Doesn't look as if Owen has mellowed any. Pity. I was hoping. No, I wasn't hoping he would be Mr. Nice Guy, but something a little less snarky would be nice.

  4. How did Mr. Blowfish know so much about the Torchwood team?

P.S. The YouTube link is here.

*grins* I had to! 've had a non-happy day, and this bit just pasted a grin on my face!!!

1. YES.

2. MMYES. But. I think it was the blowfish's words, and also the bit that Owen said about Jack in the car, that got Ianto into too-emo mode. (besides, we haven't got much evidence that Ianto is a good shot... >.>)

3. *grins* Nope, and I think I prefer that he doesn't mellow much.

4. Telepathy?

Sorry to hear it.

Me too!

Point 2: Thing is, I want Ianto to show he has both capability and potential to be more than a tea boy. If he's rattled by a villain's taunting, if his hand shakes when he thinks about Jack - well, he isn't very good as an operative, is he? I was Ianto the Superhero, not Ianto the Incompetent. I was really hoping that he was a good shot, that he'd maybe been practising with Jack (back when Jack was round) and had both skill and confiendence. It appears not.

See, if he's too emo to cope, he really is just a tea boy like Owen said, and not worthy of Jack as a lover, or much credit to Jack as a mentor.

3. Granted. I guess I'm doomed to never really like Owen.

4. Could be. Sneaky alien!

1. Crosswalk lady is brilliant. She might just make the episode for me lol.
2. I kinda wish he had too, but at the same time, I think Iantos still new to his 'promotion' like the blowfish said, and might not have quite enough confidence to pull the trigger.
3. I hope he doesn't, because something in my gut is telling me(and I've had this confirmed NO WHERE so ignore it if you like) that Owen won't be around for that much longer. This season and part of three if they make one, but something just is telling me not to get attached.
4. I assumed that the blowfish was studying torchwood as torchwood studies aliens. Hacking into their computers maybe, and maybe thats why their chasing him in the first place.

1. One of those brief but wonderful performances.
2. No, he didn't have the confidence to pull the trigger, and I really, really wish he had. I want to think Ianto has what it takes to do the job. It seems he doesn't yet.
3. Interesting comment! We shall see. I actually hope you're right.
4. Makes sense.

I was just telling a freind of mine that I've got a Owen's on the way out theory, and I realized I'd be upset if he did go. Mostly because he's the unadulterated verbal thoughts of the team, their all thinking half of what he says/does, but he's the only one with the 'balls' as jack put it to say anything.

I'm miss Owen if he went; I wouldn't be upset.

He doesn't strike me that way at all! He talks, but without a lot of substance: his honesty is empty. Gwen is dishonest, but still speaks her mind as necessary. Ianto and Tosh are the quite ones who don't reveal their thoughts very often. But when they do, they too can be outspoken, particularly in their criticism of Jack. It was Tosh who objected to using the Weevil to catch the Weevil-kidnappers.

I agreed with her on the Weevil thing. But thats just me. And in the finale with the 'Who are you anyway, Jack Fucking Harkness' bit, thats him being all of their voice. To me anyway...its amazing the way people see things differently, your right.

I agreed with Tosh on the Weevil thing, too - and I think Jack both agreed and felt it necessary to be ruthless. (He's learned not to be sentimental about aliens.) I don't think Owen is more honest, he's just more negative. He still lies to Jack when he feels like it.

All of them lied to Jack. I'm just saying he's more honest about how he feels, and his emotions are more to the surface. The rest of them all seem to try to hide that in themselves, and thats not good.

From: [identity profile] fajrdrako.livejournal.com
I think they all have emotions near the surface, and express them freely - they are just different emotions. Ianto was not hesitant to express himself in "Cyberwoman". They all sound off about different things, and at different times, but they all do it.

He doesn't really have a choice there does he? He's caught in his lie. Of course all of them express themselves emotionally when they get caught, but what about the other 12 episodes in the season?

We heard what Ianto was thinking in Greeks Bearing Gifts, I highly doubt he would ever say that out loud.

I never saw Owen hide anything, and it got him into a lot of trouble. Now if its a good thing or a bad thing that he says whatever he feels, thats different, but he does say it.

Well, Owen is certainly the one most likely to vocally express a negative opinion. No doubt of that.

I really hope Owen buys it. I'm tired of him.

Well - we shall see. My impression is that he'll be around for the long haul because Russell T. Davies likes him, but I can hope I'm wrong!

I hope they give an reason for #4, otherwise it comes across as a very heavy handed way to reintroduce the characters. Given what happens to the blowfish, I worry they won't bother with an explanation.

Otherwise: Whoo hoo!

Yes. If there's a reason for it, I think it's all rather clever and fun. (Possibly a little too cute, but that's not a problem.) If the blowfish guy is never explained - well. Yeah, heavy-handed, but also kind of pointless. And the story is about Captain John, as far as I know. Not Dr. Blow.

At least he was an articulate blowfish.

You know, I was getting worried, because I found the DW S3 finale insultingly stupid, and the Christmas special bored me, but this just looks like so much fun. I'm getting enthusiastic again!

I had numerous problems with it. I am one of the fans who prefers to think of it as "the episode that never was". But at the same time, I keep trying to poke at it like a sore tooth, to try to get it to make some kind of emotional sense to me. (It doesn't.)

this just looks like so much fun. I'm getting enthusiastic again!

Me too! I was worried about numerous things, but this looks as if their sense of humour is restored, and it looks like a plot that might be really delightful.
