Oh, what a wonderful birthday!
Sunny and warm, but not hideously hot. I took the day off so I didn't have to go to work. Have you any idea how easy it is to do one's morning exercises when you don't have to leave for work at 7:30 a.m.? It's amazing what a difference it makes.
Then I lounged and read a good part of
Natural Born Charmer by Susan Elizabeth Phillips, loving it as I always love her books. Went to Milagro Grill for lunch with
maaseru, and the food was utterly wonderful - I had 'caramelized onion soup', which was like nothing I'd ever tasted before, and I loved it; followed corn bread and a wonderful salad with peanuts and grilled chicken in it. Dinner was at Sushi Kan, delicious as always.
maaboroshi kindly assembled my new
DVD/CD shelves from Ikea and I put them up and filled them. Love 'em.
Then this evening
maaseru and
maaboroshi and I watched the first episode of season 2
Heroes, "Four Months Later" - right after re-watching the last episode of last season. The new season looks great; there were plenty of surprises, and a few very interesting set-ups. I loved what has happened with Nathan - especially the outcome of the scenes with his mother! No, no, most of all the strange sight of himself in the mirror. I was delighted to see Ando, too. We all chortled over all the Kensei scenes. And then... the very last scene of all - what a way to end an episode! (And how's that for being discreet about spoilers?)
Looking forward to next week's "Lizard".

Date: 2007-09-25 08:12 am (UTC)Happy Happy Birthday! (late, I know, sorry!)
I love Susan Elizabeth Phillips too! I just did a reread of her Bonner/Stars series. At least, up until the book I just bought, haven't read the last one yet (Match Me If You Can), but it's next on the "see at Borders, buy!" list.
Thanks for not being too spoilery!! I'm so looking forward to Heroes. In a few weeks! My parents are taping them for me, and it looks like I convinced them to watch it. I'm sure it doesn't hurt that I told them one of the main characters is from the same part of India we're from -- the character and the person in real life. :-)
I'll have to see how they liked it!

Date: 2007-09-25 01:47 pm (UTC)I haven't read Match Me If You Can - must get it soon. I might have missed another one. I know I was totally up to date with her books as far as Fancy Pants - but then it gets murky. Nice to know there's still something by her I haven't read - aside from the final 50 pages of Natural Born Charmer. I love the way this book is put together - the way the complexities build, and random details turn out to be important.
Your family is from the same part of India as Mohinder? and Sendhil Ramamurthy? That's utterly cool. (It would be nice to think everyone from that bit of the world is as charming and handsome as he is!) Far as I can tell, no one in the show has any connection with Canada - yet.
I hope they liked it, and that you get the episode soon. I'd say it's worth waiting for.

Date: 2007-09-25 07:32 pm (UTC)I haven't read Natural Born Charmer yet. I do love SEP's books mostly. Did you read the one with all the Heyer quotes? Was that Fancy Pants? I really loved that one, especially for the appropriate Heyer quotes. One at the beginning of each chapter. It was very cool. Two of my favorite authors together! :-)
Yeah, my family's from Tamil Nadu. Madras is where Mohinder and his father are from and supposed to have been genetics profs. And when I looked up Sendhil, the IMDB site said that his parents are from Tamil Nadu. I'm assuming, like me, he's pretty American and grew up in the US. But who knows. He was born the same year as me too, according to IMDB as well.
I'll be watching the first few eps when my parents come to visit -- the 18th or 19th of October. Something like that. :-) And then will be watching the next batch over Christmas, since we're going to my parents' house for a couple weeks.

Date: 2007-09-26 01:44 pm (UTC)No - now I must find it! Or if I did, I've forgotten, and it sounds like something I'd remember. Looking forward to it.
How nice to have things in common with Sendhil Ramamurthy! Gorgeousness personified.
It's probably a pain to have to wait for the new episodes, but it's nice to get a batch of Heroes episodes to watch at once because then you can follow the threads more closely. I've done that with re-watching, and it's fun.

Date: 2007-09-26 02:47 pm (UTC)Ah, the one with the quotes is "Ain't She Sweet?" That's a really great one.
I hadn't thought of that about Heroes. I don't tend to rewatch series, so hmmm... We have so little time to watch TV and Tom and I do it together. And he doesn't like rewatching things... But we have watched series on DVD all at once, and, I have to admit, it is fun. We watched Firefly that way and a lot of B5. Somehow, we're on the slow track with BSG though, just through the first DVD. (we belong to one of those Netflix type DVD programs)

Date: 2007-09-26 03:08 pm (UTC)Firefly lends itself very well to a marathon viewing, though I saw it when it was first aired and most of the episodes were out of order - which was both surreal and confusing, but no less fun because - yes indeedy! - that's another show with great characterization.
Which, come to think of it, is true also of Heroes. I sometimes get annoyed with the characterization or the actions of certain characters, but on the whole, they are interesting, distinct, and un-cliched.
Babylon 5 in the end disappointed me, and I have fairly negative memories of it, though it certainly did have great moments.
Battlestar Galactica, in my opinion, builds and gets better. But sometimes the story wanders. Great characters, though.

Date: 2007-10-01 02:09 pm (UTC)Let me know how you like Ain't She Sweet once you've read it! :-D
Loved Firefly -- but only watched in marathon form, though. True of all shows really, only watched them one way, so no basis for comparison!
Babylon 5 we watched in marathon and quite enjoyed. The last season was a disappointment, but then we got through it all very quickly in marathon, so the disappointment was less for not having to wait for eps and having a buildup.
BSG -- glad to hear -- we've got the next disc now, who knows when we'll get a chance to see it though, with Florida coming up! ;-p

Date: 2007-10-01 10:22 pm (UTC)Firefly works well as a marathon. And yes, the last season of Babylon 5 would probably work better if you saw it all together - it wouldn't be so drawn out.

Re: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!
Date: 2007-09-25 01:50 pm (UTC)There was a funny moment yesterday when
"Marvellously," I said. "No fights at all."
Just to prove me a liar, at that precise moment Jubilee and Peter decided to fight over who would get to eat the birthday-treat millet I put into the cage. I'll swear they've never done that before! Jubilee won the spat, and Peter sulked for a few minutes until she let him eat as well.

...kind of terrible, actually. you're telling me what kinds of scenes there are, who shows up, and some of what happens, with all sorts of little hinty-hints. It's almost worse than outright spoilers. Please cut-tag in the future.

In the photograph, it is showing its prowess in all three.
Just try not to drool on the keyboard too much, there's a dear.

As for the gift - oh yes, very useful, and decorative too! Many thanks!
