When contemplating Mama Petrelli, it is very tempting to think that someone (or a group) of the older crowd are or were working on a technique to control or hone a group of people with powers - to create specific powers
Didn't Linderman actually say that he brought about Nikki & her husband's relationship? There's little doubt in my mind that the older crowd was trying to breed powers.
Of course, by the end when Simone's father is revealed to be another of the "older crowd" conspiracy, I was really starting to get sick of all the unrevealed connections. I mean, they were really tying everyone together into one big conspiracy and that got a bit too annoying. But it was near the end of the season, so it didn't bother me too much.
Could be. As sad as it might be, I also wonder about Claire's new boyfriend. According to spoilers, he can fly. It could be coincidence, or it could be Angela and Co. playing on Claire's daddy issues for reasons of their own. For her sake, I hope it's the former.
Yeah, definitely. I don't think you need to be a conspiracy theorist to assume a large well-funded conspiracy pulling the strings everywhere "the older crowd". They're certainly given plenty of evidence of it.
I'm really interested in seeing how that'll play out. Linderman is dead, does it all fall apart? Do the young ones rebel? Do they realize how big an organization it is?
I was just happy that Hiro's father wasn't in on it. As far as we know, I think at least!
Part of the fun is not knowing the extent of the genetic conspiracy. There's Eric Roberts and his gang. (I forget his name, if he has one. The Paper Man.) There's Linderman and his crowd, a sort of genetic mafia, and they all meet up somehow with Mr Nakamura on the roof of Isaac's loft - am I right in thinking that was a Petrelli place? - with Simone's Papa's involvement and/or knowledge too. And Claude and Bennet were both part of the Paper group. But, but, but... how much were they all on the same side? Who was infiltrating? Who was double crossing whom?
We have a lot of empowered characters. Did they all have one or more parent with connections to the plot?
Do we know who Molly's parents are?
Where has the Haitian gone? Is he really in cahoots with Angela Petrelli?
Does Hiro's sister have powers?
I wonder about Sylar's father.
Calling the Eric Roberts bunch the Paper group makes me think I can divide them all roughly into paper, scissors and stone.
Paper - Bennet, Claude, and so on, who use the paper company as a cover and who act covertly.
Scissors - You'd think Hiro's father and the bunch after the sword would be here, but here I assign Linderman and the Petrellis - people who use bloody violence for their ends. Nikki/Jessica and DL and Micah and Natan and Peter are their pawns, with varying levels of innocence - or so they want them to be.
Rock - Mr. Nakamura and his family, bastions of stability watching what's going on in the tempestuous genetic war in the US, but not directly a part of it. Connections to all, but standing outside the conflagration.
So where does that leave Sylar? A lone wolf? A secret weapon? An experiment gone wrong?
I agree with you on the fun bit. It is fun to try to speculate on exactly how everyone's connected, and who else must have powers, because their sibling/daughter/etc. does. I wonder if Simone did, since her father did, we're assuming!
I gotta wonder whether Mohinder does. I'm betting his sister does somehow. I still don't know why she's not dead, but I guess we'll find out soon enough! ;-p
I like the paper/rock/scissors. Nice way to categorize them, I think it does work.
Sylar and other renegades are the ones that don't play the game within the rules... ;-p
Which one's Molly? The little girl that finds people?
who else must have powers, because their sibling/daughter/etc. does.
I wonder about Nathan's kids (besides Claire). And Matt's wife and baby. (How did they come to marry? Is Matt right outside the loop?) And yes, Simone. I was expecting her to manifest powers from the moment we met her. Unless her power is to return from the dead... looks as if it's a moot point.
I was willing to bet strongly that Mohinder had powers but I thought they'd manifest before the end of the season. I can't help thinking there has to be something there.
Yeah, why not Mohinder? I was really wondering when we'd see his powers. And find out his dad's -- ability to do genetic research that doesn't make sense and find cool things? ;-p
But is there any evidence that powers can't duplicate? I don't remember anything like that. Plus, Peter's and Sylar's powers overlap quite a lot, though Sylar has to go through more effort to get the same result. And didn't the Chris Eccleston character have the same power as Peter -- absorption?
For the interests of the show, I can see variety being more fun. But is there anything within the show that says powers can't repeat or don't?
No, there's no reason powers can duplicate. Obviously Sylar and Peter's powers both involved duplication. If Eccleston/Claude had absorption powers, I missed it - I thought he was just invisible. I don't quite understand (yet) what powers Simone's father had. The power to make someone else see another time? And to interact with them?

Oh my goodness. Yes. This sounds like... part of a pattern.
Claire's smart. She can handle a lot. I just hope nobody breaks her heart.

Intriguing.
