Torchwood news from the BBC...

There is another BBC press release about series 2 Torchwood.
I'm looking forward to seeing Martha with the Torchwood team. I don't buy it that she has 'outgrown' the Doctor - that's too dismissive of them both. It will be nice to see her new professional capacity, though. (Especially in tandem with Owen. He is sooo outclassed.)
Davies says, "she joins Torchwood at a point when everything is going to change for one of them." Oh, what a tease he is.
As for Richard Briers as "a reclusive millionaire who is the keeper of alien secrets", sounds like Van Statten from "Dalek". I approve. Or are we looking at the collector trying to buy the alien eye on eBay in "Random Shoes"? I'd like that: I'd like the sense of continuity.

I'm rambling because I can't remember the exact quote.

Date: 2007-08-16 01:39 am (UTC)Based on your reactions to what RTD has given us with Martha, so far, I expect you and he are going to have a permanent fan writer vs. creator disagreement over this point, unfortunately.

The situations in the series are not static - they are evolving to such an extent that I realize how static they are in many other TV shows, how refreshing it is to see the characters in the show grow and evolve, while still being true to themselves.
So when Davies (or Agyerman) says Martha has outgrown the Doctor, what they really mean is that she has grown within herself, independently of the Doctor. That, I agree with.
It's all semantics.

Date: 2007-08-16 07:47 pm (UTC)When everything is about to change for one of the members... hm. Well, I read this right after I read your header, "everything changes," with John Barrowman's handsome face. Heh. Nah, too obvious!
I think it means that Owen becomes a woman. Or Ianto ascends (no, sorry, that's Stargate stuff, forgive me!). Or Gwen finds an orthodontist -- say it ain't so!
It's fun bein' silly.
Also like the idea of our finding out more about the eye-buyer from "Random Shoes." That could be intriguing indeed.
Oh, and BBC America will start showing Torchwood season one on September 8 -- which you probably already know.

Cool.
Or Ianto ascends
Hee.
Or Gwen finds an orthodontist -- say it ain't so!
Gasp! No!

No, I didn't know. I did hear they'd shown ads for it in the States. I'm eager to find out when it'll be shown in Canada - some time after "Doctor Who" series 3, I think. Whenever that will be. They keep pre-empting DW for sports so the ending is delayed.
