On the bus this morning, I realized that in my list of "The Ten Best Lines of Captain Jack Harkness", I left off my two favourites. Since this oversight has to be rectified, I will now extend my list to "The Twelve Best Lines of Captain Jack Harkness". The missing lines:
2. "See you in hell." (Parting of the Ways) Classic action-hero line. I always hoped he would say it in Torchwood; he never did. He should have said it to Gwen before he went to face Abaddon in "End of Days".
1. "Never doubted him. Never will." (Parting of the Ways) The perfect statement of faith!

Date: 2007-02-13 02:48 pm (UTC)I don't think Jack expected anyone to survive, though he thought that if anyone could save the situation, it was the Doctor. Even if he died doing so.
Nonetheless... I'm not convinced that Jack, even at that point, believed in a literal hell, or thought he would go there, or that the Doctor would. I think the statement - more of a slogan, really - was a bit of cheeky defiance, indicating that he was not afraid of anything, and ready to face any fate.
