Woman of Ice

Toshiko crushed the pendant.

It was the first step to healing, Jack knew. Tosh had loved Mary; he'd killed her. A necessary death. He'd met Mary's type before. Insatiable, sociopathic, preying on the lonely and shy. Tosh was the prefect victim. So he had made the end irrevocable. Painful though it was, Tosh would learn the lesson she needed: don't trust too easily. Don't let your heart be stolen.

It was easy to love unwisely. He'd done it... too often. Love carried a high price. Only the cold-hearted were immune from the pain, and Tosh was not a woman of ice.

This is really good, it evokes a whole lot of emotion in a small amount of space.

It also shows why Jack let Tosh crush the pendant, when their supposed to be about collecting alien technology. To him her sanity and closure were more important.

Very well written.

Ooh, thank you! That's the whole trick of a drabble. The challenge and the safisfaction (if/when successful).

I have a theory that Jack's agenda isn't really collecting alien technology, but he goes through the motions - as a sort of sideline.

To him her sanity and closure were more important.

I think that would be important to him - he's very fond of her.

Thank you!

Very clever, to say so much more about Jack than about Tosh, filtered through his perceptions. You cast a positive light on an action of Jack's that can be interpreted as pretty classic Torchwood high-handedness. Poor, poor Jack. Does he really want to be so cold-hearted?

[an aside: "Tosh was the prefect victim." -> "...perfect..."]

Funny how I always have so much to say about Jack - even when my lens is aimed elsewhere.

You cast a positive light on an action of Jack's that can be interpreted as pretty classic Torchwood high-handedness.

I almost wrote it that Jack had actually returned Mary to her home planet, but told Tosh he'd killed her so that Tosh could make a clean break, emotionally. Decided not to do that - at least not in his particular drabble - because it's a little too revisionist, though it strikes me as a Jack-like thing to do.

Poor, poor Jack. Does he really want to be so cold-hearted?

Jack is full of interior conflicts.

Thaks for the comments. I am, as always, delighted that you liked it.

*shivers* Great stuff - feels just right for how Jack would feel about it.

I wonder if he puts the Doctor in the unwise category, or not? Great job. :)

Btw, here's the latest Heroes info direct from the writers (http://comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=10692).

I was wondering that, without coming up with an answer. I think he loves the Doctor as much as he ever did - painful and inconvenient though it may be. And I'm sure he'd rather have been spared the horror of being abandoned on the Game Station. But I don't think he can really consider it 'unwise' till he's over it, and I don't think he is, or ever will be. It's just... a fact of life.

Good Heroes link! Thanks.

Kane, a recurring character that may become a possible regular. This man in his late 20s is referred, in the info we were given, as an ageless American with an European feel. He is said to be a charming womanizer who as a soul that seems to be older than he appears to be.

Played by John Barrowman, by any chance? *g* Sounds most familiar!

Who is/was Alejandro?

Will there be any room left for our beloved old characters? I could do without Niki, but...

Well, we shall see.

LMAO! That's exactly what I thought. I also wondered if he would be evil. After all, Highlander fans have known for years that ageless people with names that start with "K" are evil. :)

Re: The cast -- As long as they keep the Bennets and Peter, the rest are negotiable.

Point. Now I'm picturing Kronos vs Peter Petrelli. Mmm. I think I feel a crossover coming on.

As long as they keep the Bennets and Peter, the rest are negotiable

And Hiro. I don't want to lose Hiro or the Bennets or Peter. Anyone else can come or go.

No, we can't forget Hiro.

Re: The Bennets & Peter -- The writers could pull a save, of course, but I think the chances of Nathan surviving are very remote. If he's dead, that leaves his mother, who wanted her baby boy to become a mass murdering bomb, as the only bio-relative Peter has left to turn to besides Claire. Assuming the poor kid is even coherent enough to use complete sentences when he's found, I seriously doubt he'll have much to say to Ice Bitch Angela.

At which point, he'll just go home with the Bennets. He'll be nursed back to mental health, while Bennet employs Molly to keep tabs on Angela, so that he can make sure Peter and his Claire-Bear never have to share space with her, as long as he can avoid it. Frankly, I don't care what Angela's backstory turns out to be. There's no justification for wanting your son to be a mass murderer and your grand-daughter to be an unwitting accessory to mass murder through Peter's absorption of her power. Bennet needs to just shoot her in the head, provided her power doesn't prevent him from doing that.

I don't know if Nathan can survive. I tend to go by the old comic book dictum that no one dies permanently, ever. We shall see.

Mama Petrelli is very scary indeed. Yes, a shot in the head would handle her nicely - unless her power is invulnerability or something like that.

I like the idea of Peter being with the Bennets.

There are already fics around the idea.

I must look.

I'd certainly like to see Peter rescued from his mother!

I have a feeling we're going to see some variation of the following:

Nathan is killed. Bennet and Claire bundle Peter up and stash him safely away. Meanwhile, Nathan's widow, Heidi, finds out or figures out enough to decide her boys aren't safe with Grandma and cuts off all contact. This forces Angela to try and repair burned bridges with Peter and Claire. This facilitates revealing Angela's backstory, as the writers have promised backstory next season.

I like that scenario; I'm not sure how close it will be to what happens.

Angela's backstory would be good, particularly if it shows the connections to Nakamura, Raines and Bennet.
