Aliens of London
He resembled any beautiful clubber: spiky hair, leather-clad dancer's grace. He caught Jack's eye. Jack's returning stare held curiosity and invitation.
The boy approached him. "Where you from?"
"Cardiff."
"Liar. You're from the future."
"And the past. You're a Chula, right? Class 3 warrior - maybe class 2. Maladrosian clan?"
Brown eyes narrowed appreciatively. "Close. Tavalan. I have a tattoo to prove it. Wanna see?"
"You here with your swordmates?"
"In an invisible ship. I don't need to go back yet. You're alone?"
Jack had stolen a ship from a Maladrosian once; she was gorgeous. "Until two minutes ago. Let's dance."

I'm glad I stopped by to read in a fandom I never read in before.
I'm delighted you did, because (as I'm sure you've noticed with your own stories) there's always a special gratification in getting a favourable comment from someone who isn't in the fandom you're writing in - who isn't, so to speak, biased by their prior knowledge and expectqations of it.
This drabble is (mostly) based on hints from the episode of Doctor Who where we first meet Jack in London, when he's using his stolen (and sometimes invisible) Chula space ship, tethered up to Big Ben. The line "she was gorgeous" is stolen directly from that episode, and is the only hint as to what the Chula might look like - I took it as indication that they are probably humanlike in appearance. That, and the fact that the ship's main chair, sleeping area, controls, and so on, fit humans perfectly. The rest I made up.
Except that this same episode (whic is called "The Doctor Dances") uses 'dance' as a metaphor for sex rather frequently.

Date: 2007-04-30 03:03 pm (UTC)Of course it does - and he can show off a little, with his knowledge of Chula culture, which may not go much beyond what he says here, but he's good at faking it. If I'd had more than 100 words I would have explained that in quessing "class 2 or 3" warrior Jack was being outrageously flattering, knowing full well that someone that young would probably be a class 5 or 6, but flattered to be upgraded in rank. (Like wrongly guessing a person's age!) And that it's also flattering to be mistaken for a Maladrosian, because they are aristocratic and good looking.
The whole point being, Jack + cute eager alien = party time.

Date: 2007-04-30 03:12 pm (UTC)Maybe you need to write the extended Director's Cut version of this story, including 'what happened next'! ;-)

Date: 2007-04-30 03:50 pm (UTC)Yup. You know the saying - ? "Flattery only works with three kinds of people: men, women and children." And most other species I've met, including my budgie.
Maybe you need to write the extended Director's Cut version of this story, including 'what happened next'!
That would be fun.

Date: 2007-04-30 06:02 pm (UTC)But then we get the stopwatch scene, and 1941!Jack, and the kiss for Ianto when Jack comes back from the dead, and I have a certain rule of thumb: if Jack enjoys sex in the past, and in the future, then it's my duty as a fan writer to make sure he enjoys it in the present too.
