Rose
Gwen didn't know what the music was called, but it was Glen Miller on the Hub's radio.
Jack stopped whatever he was doing. With a graceful motion, he held out his hand, smiling. "May I have this dance?"
They waltzed together there in the Hub, among alien toys, high-tech sensors and surround-sound. His hand was warm on her back.
He loved 1940s music. In his eyes was the memory of faraway magic and bittersweet loss. So Gwen whispered, "Who is it, Jack? Who are you thinking about?"
"Rose," said Jack softly, his lips brushing her hair. "Her name was Rose."

Date: 2007-04-28 06:31 pm (UTC)There are some wonderful Doctor Who icons out there. I have a weakness for icons that show the Doctor's face.

Date: 2007-05-01 02:44 pm (UTC)I love drabbles, and this does what they do best, catching the moment and the emotion of it. The tone is so gentle and melancholy without being overdone, and I love "the memory of faraway magic and bittersweet loss" *sigh* Lovely stuff.

when I started to post my latest series
I take it you mean "The Wandering Years 1: New York "? Hooray!
this does what they do best, catching the moment and the emotion of it.
Thank you. Yes, that's what a drabble does at its best, makes a point, grabs a moment to show us - something. Sometimes 100 words just isn't enough and it comes out spare. Sometimes it just teases. But sometimes they hit the balance, and that's wonderful.
I wanted to capture the way Jack loved and missed Rose without Gwen really understanding, and without him making a big deal of it.
Thanks so much for the kind words.
