Karen picked up his book about dreaming a week or two ago. We were both fascinated with his technique which is Escherlike w/o being all that geometric.
Heh - my favourite was the library one too, and when I showed maboroshimaki the website this morning, it's the one she picked out. You can tell we're all of a like mind!
Speaking of which, I love your icon. Who are they?
Thanks! It's from Cowboy Bebop: Spike Spiegel(in the white trenchcoat in the foreground) and Vicious. I've been wanting a CB icon and this picture just grabbed me.
It's called Imagine a Night (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0689852185/qid=1057076384/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_1/104-4869072-4187964?v=glance&s=books) and some of the images really are impressive.
YOu know, I was just looking at a translated volume of "Cowboy Bebop" in the bookstore yesterday, seriously considering getting it. I love that icon picture primariy for the dragon - of course! - but I like the look of the guys too.
I love it that boring old Chapters is selling manga now.
I haven't actually read the manga for it yet, but the anime is fabulous and I can highly recommend it. Unfortunately, Cartoon Network has stopped airing it for the time being, but I know Netflix, among others, carry the DVDs of the series.
The dragon was a main feature of the picture for me, too, and I was worried it wouldn't really come out in the icon. Glad to know people are getting it! *g*
Neflix.com is an online company that lets you rent an ulimited number of DVDs (though you can only have three at a time out) for an unlimited amount of time, at $20 a month. You set up an account and then a rental que which allows you to choose from their catalog and put a priority of what you want to see when. they then send you the DVDs by mail with postage paid return envelopes. Once you've sent a DVD back, they'll send you the next DVD that's available and in your que. I think it's a great idea, especially for people who maybe live in places without access to decent videostore. They have a pretty big catalog and they do specials now and then allowing you to have more than three DVDs out at once.
Hmm, maybe I'll do a net-search and see what I can find in the way of Cowboy Bebop pictures. Is the story generally about those two?
Not really, but... Cowboy Bebop is about the entire crew of bounty hunters, which includes Spike. We get bits and pieces throughout the series about Spike's past. Vicious was once his partner and close friend, but now they're enemies who try to kill each other whenever they meet. Vicious is a complete enigma and the whole story of Spike's past is kind of oblique--you keep getting flashes, sometimes literally, of what happened to him and his girlfriend Julia and the whole thing with Vicious. The artwork is, at times, stunning, and the storylines are highly entertaining. Very film noirish (I keep finding myself saying this lately!) in a sci-fi setting.
I think I'll look into this, though I doubt if Netflix rents to Canadians. (The logistics would make it impossibly, Complicated, tho' I might be wrong.) I might be able to find the DVDs locally. At least I can get the manga - for a price!
Oh, wow! His pictures are great. Thanks for finding them. I must show my brother these, as we both like MC Escher (whose style, like dargie says above, they resemble), and I enjoy patterns, arts and crafts.
Yes - I was trying to describe the pictures to my friends and I said he was somewhere between Michael Whelan and Escher, though that doesn't quite capture it. Brilliantly imaginative - I like the way he brings nature and artifacts together.

My favourite was the library one, but a number of them were just awesome. I might have to enquire as to the price of prints.

I hope you can rent the discs somewhere. To buy they're very pricey with only a couple of episodes per tape/disc.

Yes, I'll look around for the anime - and meanwhile read the manga insofar as I can afford to buy them.
