I was sitting here working on a Clex story and I heard peeping from the bird cage right behind me. That's nothing new: I have four noisy feathered guys who have a lot to say and like to say it.

But this peeping was a new voice.

This peeping is coming from the nesting box that Wisdom has been sitting in for a few weeks.

This peeping is.... Unfamiliar. Certainly not Wisdom's assertive voice, or Simon's loud chirp. This is a tiny sound, rather like a cricket. I suspect I couldn't hear it on the other side of the room.

I think someone hatched.

I can't see the baby; I don't want to disturb anyone by looking into the nesting box with a flashlight. But -

Either Wisdom has adopted a cricket or I have a fifth budgie.

Oh my goodness.

Is that why Wisdom was looking so happy and smug when she popped out of the box this morning?

Thank you! Wisdom isn't saying anything but Simon has a proud fatherly 'chirp'.

(g) Thank you. I think I feel almost as proud as Wisdom, but she did all the hatching work. And now she has a busy month of feeding coming up!

That little cricket-chirp is so cute. I grin every time I hear it.

Woo-HOOOO!!!! Congratulations!

Decide on a name?

No, no name yet, unless I revert to [livejournal.com profile] maboroshimaki's suggestion of Demonspawn. The first birds I ever had were named Nightwing and Flamebird - you'd probably get that reference.

When the peeping stops, I get nervous and stop typing to listen. Then it starts again. Almost like mewing.

Wow.

I wonder what you do, now. Leave everything to Wisdom and Pryde?

Can I issue congrats, or do you prefer to keep it quiet, for now?

For the time being, Wisdom and Pryde are supposed to know how to care for the baby. I'll just hope they do. So far, they've been doing fine in the process.

Congrats are great - no need for quietude.

Woohoo, you're a grandma! Let's hope the little one pokes his or her head out soon, so you can beam and coo over the tiny mite!

Congrats! ;)

I can hardly wait to see the little guy, though I gather that baby budgies are horrendously ugly. (Can I say that about my own grandbaby?) It must be awfully tiny, just out of the egg: the eggs are about the size of my thumbnail.

Just hearing that tiny squeak, I'm beaming and cooing even without seeing him!

According to the pix in parakeet manuals, yeah! But, he/she will get prettier!!

Now, aren't you glad you didn't pitch that egg!

Pitch *that* egg? Never!

I don't think Wisdom will let me look at her for a while, so the baby's beauty is a moot point. I'm sure he'll be very cute when she has baby green-and-yellow feathers on her like a chick.

Hey - how'd you find a photo of Wisdom? Well - pretty damn close!

Thanks for the congratulations. The cage is quieter now; I think the baby had something to eat, and is napping. But every now and again I hear a faint, tiny cheep.

I find this just too sweet. As soon as they'll let you snap a quick photo, I would love to see a baby budgie! What a wonderful thing.

I might be a while before I see the little one myself, but when I do, I'll be here in doting-grandma mode and I'll try to get a picture.

I don't have pictures of the adults either; that would be good to get.

It's a little difficult to get adult budgies to sit still for a photo or anything else. At least, my adult budgies. They are a noisy, hyperactive bunch, and endless fun to watch.

Yikes -- I did take some pictures of them, during my visit in March, and I have not yet developed the film. Fie on me. I'll get right on that, and send the pictures on to you.

Oh, wonderful! I'd love to see the pictures. Send 'em on.

I bet you had them all posing, little show-offs that they are.

That's great about the new addition! We have a friend who rescues abused birds and it's always wonderful when they've added someone new!

I have great admiration for people who rescue birds in need. Birds are such beautiful, intelligent creatures with such personality that we should help them in every way we can.

The little one is asleep now. I look forward to more of that adorable cricket-sound in the morning.

*happy dance* That's wonderful news. Thank you! I wish that we could have an egg, but Ceilidh's a boy and we have no girl parrot, so it's not going to happen. Please share more as more is available to share. :-D

I can just imagine a little baby Ceilidh! A feisty infant with a haughty stare!

It may be a while before I get to see the baby. Wisdom emerged from the nesting-box, a little unsteady on her balance and not quite able to fly. I guess it's been a busy, tiring time for her.

I wonder if the other eggs will hatch.

Meanwhile, the adorably squeaky peep-sound continues periodically.

So soon! I am amazed. And very grateful that you didn't know it was coming up on hatching time, and so could not get nervous or anxious... quick mental image of pacing grandparents-to-be in the waiting room outside the Parakeet Maternity Ward.

The news is simply wonderful. I'm so happy for you and the proud parents.

I've heard no baby-noises this morning so far. Mind you, Kaylee and Pryde, in the other cage, are skreeching up a storm.

I think I'll give them all bok choy for breakfast.
