A pile o' purchases... Torchwood and Doctor Who...

Yesterday was a red letter day, when it comes to mail. I had, over the past six months or so, ordered a number of things from amazon.ca, and most of it was delayed in arriving in Canada, so the shipping dates kept being pushed back. And then it all came at once, in the past two days. Not to mention stuff from friends. So now I have:

• The series 2 Doctor Who DVD


• Torchwood Border Princes by Dan Abnett


• Torchwood Slow Decay by Andrew Lane


• The Doctor Who Annual 2007, which thrilled me by having both David Tennant and Christopher Eccleston on the cover - I had no idea, the pictures I'd seen just showed Tennant.


• The SFX Magazine with the Torchwood 'badges' from silverwhistle. I took this up to maaseru's place and she and I and maaboroshi perused this and the Forbidden Planet catalogue for about an hour. I kept coming to a dead halt when I came to a certain beautiful figure of Faramir in the middle of the Forbidden Planet catalogue, but we were also all charmed by a lovely replica of Mal Reynold's gun, carefully detailed and hand-polished. "By Nathan Filion himself!" we chortled. And a TARDIS pencil-case. maaboroshi made me promise to bring back the SFX Magazine later because there are so many good movie and TV reviews in it. Not to mention a scrummy picture of Jamie Bamber. Thank you again, silverwhistle, this is a wonderful gift.

What do the DW badges look like? This set has a Jack (yay!), a Gwen, a Weevil (I kinda like that one!) and a Torchwood symbol.

Given Jack's colourful past, I'm sure he's learned the genders of numerous unusual species!

Yup, 'colourful' is his middle name. (Cognate with 'flexible', you know.) I'm sure this is also true for other androgynous/hermaphrodite versions.

And joking aside, I think Jack would really have to have a good general knowledge of xenobiology - even if it's just a streetwise version, it would have been necessary for his survival.

There's one Doctor with Martha, a K9 (cute!), a Cyberman with a hand stretching out towards you and a TARDIS.

The funniest part - there's a warning on the back saying Not suitable for children!

That's downright strange! Maybe they think a child might swallow them? Or stick himself with the pin?

I suppose they are trying to get everyone on board with Martha as the new assistant. Rose is a pretty hard act to follow.

It's very true that they want to give Martha exposure (which is fine by me) and that Rose is a hard act to follow. But if I were designing the badges, I'd skip K9 and give the Doctor his solo badge.

But then I'm biased... any chance to see the Doctor will do!
