Warren Ellis said today:
Also noted: 3 LBS got cancelled after two or three episodes. I never got through the pilot. It was a shameless HOUSE knock-off, and not even the wonderful Indira Varma could save it. (She did, however, return to make the best TORCHWOOD episode I've seen yet, blitzing the rest of the cast and gnawing on the script with relish.)
...Presumably referring to "They Keep Killing"? Yes. Indira Varma is wonderful, and I'm mildly sorry Three Pounds was cancelled because this means I'll never get a chance to see it - which is a good thing, if it's bad. Though Warren Ellis and I have different tastes in many things, I trust the honesty and intelligence of his assessment. I expect he is somewhat less besmitten by John Barrowman than I am, though we seem to agree on Indira Varma.

I hope Indira Varma gets a role in something else, something good, so I can see more of her. Hopefully in a nicer (but not less demanding) role than Suzie Costello.

"Blitzing" the rest of the cast? Yeah, we definitely have different opinions, Mr. Ellis. :-) I thought Indira Varma was great, and it's too bad her show's already been canceled. But I thought that JB and EM were equal to the task in "They Keep Killing." But then, of course, I'm a rabid JB fangirl, so what do I know, eh?

We certainly have a different perspective on that - and I think we win, 'cause we're having more fun with it than Warren Ellis is! Go, us. Or, rather, Go, Jack!

Ah... She is the STAR of a movie called Kama Sutra - A Tale of Love. If you haven't seen it... and feel like wasting a pack of tissues... do. It's wonderful, and she is...
Amazing.

I'd been wanting to see that anyway - didn't know she was in it. Thanks for the info!

Warning: As with many art-house sex movies, there's death involved. Sex = death. (The Jonquil family art-house movie rule: Explicit Sex = Death and usually Castration. )

No problem. I can live with a little death, especially for the sake of sex.

I generally prefer the death to the sex.

I'd say it depends on the death... and sometimes on the sex! I find the sex more fun to play with, generally speaking.

I guess I like it that life contains both.

Death - yes. As I said, prepare a lot of tissues. Lots of beauty, but lots of suffering.

In this movie, I'd definitely opt for the sex, though. Mostly.

But anyway, Indira Varma is the lead there, and well worth it.

Yup. I watched "They Keep Killing" and kept thinking "Shit. Bring in a good actor and all of a sudden it's a good show."

I don't think it was just better acting, I think it was a better script, too. Or perhaps that the good script made the actors act better.

Oh, she was on "Rome". I like her. I'll look forward to seeing her in Torchwood...eventually. :P

She was in Rome? really? that sounds like a good reason to watch it. It has James Purefoy too, doesn't it?

Yup. It's quite good, if you can deal with the levels of sex and violence, which are high. Also Ciaran Hinds as Julius Caesar, and the surprisingly wonderful Max Pirkis as Octavian. Purefoy is Marc Anthony.

I saw the first few episodes and wasn't terribly engaged - didn't find the characters particularly likeable, though the plot was interesting enough and the history was good. I certainly liked Purefoy as Marc Anthony, but Ciaran Hinds seemed wrong as Caesar in ways I couldn't put my finger on. I liked Max Pirkis.

Not that I remember it well at this point - !

I did think I might try watching it again at a later date.
