Some sad news...

Two of my budgies died today. Gambit died around 11 a.m.; Pryde probably an hour or so after that, though I was out, and didn't find her till I got home hours later.
Cause of death? I'm almost certain it was teflon poisoning. I'd been cooking some vegetables in a teflon pan; it burned dry. I didn't think much about it - these things happen - but it turns out that teflon fumes are extremely toxic for budgies. I had no idea.
Logan seems to be all right. I'm hoping that having lasted this long after the burned-pot incident, the danger is over for him.

Date: 2006-12-02 04:30 pm (UTC)I still have their pictures on my computer: Gambit looked just like my Magnus, and Pryde was so unusual and pretty in her colouring.
Please pass on lots of love to Logan: feather-smoothing, and finger-fights (does he finger-fight through the bars?), and cheeps.

Date: 2006-12-03 03:51 am (UTC)Me too! I got him an extra supply of spinach for tomorrow. I know food doesn't substitute for companionship, and he's feeling his loneliness. He sings and on one takes up the song. He chirps and gets no reply. He looks both disappointed and frustrated.
I'll circulate the warning about teflon around my friends, as I'm sure there are a few other people about with small pet birds.
Yes, please do. None of the budgie manuals I had warned me of that. The poeple I've mentioned this to didn't know about it. Definitely, spread the news! It killed them so fast.
Yes, Logan finger-fights through the bars - sometimes, if he feels like it.
