Silliness...
Aug. 1st, 2006 12:56 pmI have been peeking at this site, like someone watching a horse race and rooting for a favourite horse to win. The horse in this case being David Tennant, of course. Adorable man, beside whom Orlando Bloom pales in comparison. A pause here for appreciative contemplation of a few Viggo/Orly RPS fics I've enjoyed in passing.... But no. David Tennant is the best.

Date: 2006-08-02 01:51 pm (UTC)I haven't, but.... Interesting. Maybe Ten doesn't like cats but Nine does? Actually, it would make sense-- we all know the traits you can't stand are the ones you recognize in yourself. I bet he thinks they're stuck-up. :D

Date: 2006-08-02 02:04 pm (UTC)Is it a spoiler to mention how he puts his feet up on the desk at Torchwood? Great moment. Yes, he's a world-class lounger, but still vividly full of energy. ...Somebody in Highlander fandom once mentioned how Methos could "lounge for England". I think the Tenth Doctor could match him.
And the sniffing and tasting things, and the transitions from playful to dangerous.
All of which I love.
Even the way he thinks he's smooth and isn't, sometimes, like a cat that falls off the sofa and then you can see them rewrite the universe in their heads to, "I meant to do that, what are you talking about?"
Uh-huh. And the abrupt changes of direction. And the direct stare he sometimes gives people. I suppose I could even mention nine lives....
Ten doesn't like cats but Nine does?
The reason he gives for not liking cats is the murderous nurse who tried to kill him in "New Earth". Not a reason that would be valid for Nine. So I think we can assume that the Doctor in general likes cats (and they like him), but after "New Earth" Ten is put off them somewhat. I can't remember which episode he said that in... An excuse/reason to watch it all again.

Date: 2006-08-02 02:17 pm (UTC)Yes! You're a horrible person! (Kidding. It's not. Now I have something to look forward to. Also, I love his sneakers. I have some just like that, only they're black. And another pair that are vibrant, aggressive, slightly hideous fuschia, but we shall not speak of that.)

Ahahahaha! What a great phrase! I'm stealing it. Am I allowed to ask, by the way, whether we see the Doctor interact with children again? For some reason I can't quite define, I loved it when he was around kids last season: there was a bit of a lightness to him that wasn't usually present with other characters (except for Rose, sometimes), that I really liked. And normally I loathe children in my stories.
And the direct stare he sometimes gives people.
It's conclusive. He's very much a cat. I can just see the Doctor staring at you wordlessly until you get all squirmy and uncomfortable and walk away even though you know you're being stupid, the same way cats will.
The reason he gives for not liking cats is the murderous nurse who tried to kill him in "New Earth".
Oh, well, that's valid. Not going to argue there. Although if he's going to stop liking everything that resembles something that's tried to kill him, he might as well declare himself a universal misanthrope right now. *grin* Still. Those cats. Mixed up with Cassandra's little three-ring circus of body-swapping, too; I can see how they'd be an unpleasant reminder.

Now I have something to look forward to.
You did anyway. The only difference is, now you know about it.
Also, I love his sneakers.
So do I. They always make me smile.
I have some just like that, only they're black.
So does Ten. You'll see them in, um, "The Rise of the Cybermen", coming up soon. He's wearing a tux, you see, so he colour-coordinates the shoes. I didn't notice the first time round. Second time round... I chortled. I love a hero who coordinates his wardrobe!
but we shall not speak of that.
I wonder if Rose has a pair....
Am I allowed to ask, by the way, whether we see the Doctor interact with children again?
I had to think for a moment. Yes, actually, in "Fear Her". Not in quite the same way. I loved Nine with the children in "The Empty Child".
normally I loathe children in my stories.
Doctor Who breaks all the rules of what I normally do and don't like.
Although if he's going to stop liking everything that resembles something that's tried to kill him, he might as well declare himself a universal misanthrope right now. *grin*
And he often does! Just listen to him on stupid ape brains and the like.

Date: 2006-08-02 05:35 pm (UTC)Yes! And wasn't he wonderful in Aliens of London, when they're watching the telly at Jackie's flat and he has a toddler on his knee (squee!) and they have a little tussle over the remote control, and we get a few seconds of Blue Peter and the alien spaceship cake before the Doctor manages to regain control of the remote. And the kid is giggling, not at all intimidated... It's a lovely moment. Another example of funny bits in DW.

Date: 2006-08-02 05:59 pm (UTC)Love that bit. I never figured out who the kid was, though.
It's a lovely moment.
And a nicely human moment - meaning no disparagement to the aliens among us.
Another example of funny bits in DW.
I wouldn't mind making a lost of those, too. Just... favourite incidental moments.

Date: 2006-08-02 06:12 pm (UTC)It wasn't important - I assume the child belonged to one of the random people gathered in Jackie's sitting room.

Good idea. We could compare notes. I watched part of Love and Monsters yesterday - I'm not that keen on the Absorbaloth (?) but I just love the first part of the episode. Hmm, list...

Date: 2006-08-02 06:25 pm (UTC)Presumably. Do we ever see the famous Shireen?

I agree about the, um, creature, but there are so many things I love about that episode I forgive it for the rest.

Date: 2006-08-02 05:26 pm (UTC)It's in Fear Her, just before the ginger moggy disappears inside a cardboard box. Rose has stopped to say hello to the cat, and possibly Ten wants his head stroked, hence the resentment against cats in general?
Now Nine likes cats. He casually picks up a black and white one in The Empty Child, gives it a cuddle and puts it back down. The cat is perfectly happy throughout this treatment - well, who wouldn't be? ;) Confirms my adoration of Nine.

Date: 2006-08-02 05:54 pm (UTC)Right! Thank you. I knew you'd know. (g)
Rose has stopped to say hello to the cat, and possibly Ten wants his head stroked,
By Rose - yes, I have no doubt.
hence the resentment against cats in general?
That would explain it. Goodness knows, cats are quite capable of being jealous of each other.
The cat is perfectly happy throughout this treatment - well, who wouldn't be?
Indeed. And Rose isn't there to see it, and be jealous of the happy cat.
Confirms my adoration of Nine.
And mine.
