Silliness...
Aug. 1st, 2006 12:56 pmI have been peeking at this site, like someone watching a horse race and rooting for a favourite horse to win. The horse in this case being David Tennant, of course. Adorable man, beside whom Orlando Bloom pales in comparison. A pause here for appreciative contemplation of a few Viggo/Orly RPS fics I've enjoyed in passing.... But no. David Tennant is the best.

Date: 2006-08-01 09:29 pm (UTC)Did you notice, it says that "you are ONLY (my emphasis!) allowed to vote once every 15 minutes". What?! Now I'm picturing legions of devoted fangirls with stopwatches dutifully voting every 15 mins...
Which is not to say I won't be casting a vote every now and then. In spite of the shirt. *g*
PS Love the icon. Pork chop!

Which is not to say I won't be casting a vote every now and then.
I am such a hopeless fangirl. Every once in a while I just go and look to see how he's doing... and cast another vote. I should stop doing that.
In spite of the shirt.
I am not voting for the shirt. This is not a sartorial contest.
PS Love the icon.
It's by
Yours is very nice too. That over-the-glasses-frame glance is very sexy.

Date: 2006-08-01 09:50 pm (UTC)Many others would agree, as the votes indicate.
Much more so than OB, for instance, who is absurdly... mockable.
Indeed. Trying too hard?
Also, David Tennant's hands.
Indeed. We could vote for hands.
And if we were voting for noses or voices, he'd still rank pretty high.
If we were voting for mobile eyebrows - well! Champion.

Date: 2006-08-01 09:58 pm (UTC)I resent him for this. Greatly. As someone who had to train herself for six months to even manage to sort of be able to raise one eyebrow, I'm in a position to say that it is NOT fair that some people get all the eyebrow mobility.
no subject
Date: 2006-08-01 10:10 pm (UTC)This is very true. It's one of those cosmic balances - he gets all the eyebrow mobility that you lack. Heck, he gets all the eyebrow mobility of an entire nation. He has eyebrow-mobility of 10 while most of us are stuck at about 3. Totally unfair!
But nice to see.

I must admit to not appreciating *David* Tennant quite as much as youse guys; perhaps he must be seen in motion, to be appreciated?

Date: 2006-08-02 12:51 am (UTC)I wasn't one until the current series, which I discovered a couple of months ago. My impression had been that the show was silly. Now I think it's brilliant. Go figure.
Siegfried Sassoon is one of those people that I've intended to read a bio of, but haven't done so... yet. Which Waugh character was based on Stephen Tennant, do you know?
Anyway, sorry to disappoint you with the wrong Tennant!
Yes, Tennant must be seen in motion (and in context) to be appreciated. He is amazingly expressive, and personable. I am trying to avoid the word cute, because it isn't really cuteness, it's ... a mobility of character and expression that is delightful. At least for those of us who have fallen helplessing for the charm of it.

Have now seen all the way through Tooth and Claw. Love the way Ten continues to show Rose's influence and Rose displays, unthinking, a few of Nine's traits (motivating people to get up and do something, comforting the maid.) Love their moments-- the hugs, the caught hands, the running back for him or her, the way Ten smirks when Rose can't get the Queen to say "Not amused," and Rose's victory screech when she does. And the Scottish accent! It's beautiful: lyrical in the same way a Welsh lilt or an touch of Irish is. I didn't know Scottish accents could be like that. Suddenly the idea of Lymond having just a touch of one doesn't seem so horrifying.

Ahh, yes.

I think that voice of his could make any accent sound good, but what he does with Scottish - ahh, sigh. His natural accent is Scottish. I wish he used it throughout the series. (Too much northerliness?)

I always picture Lymond as having a very lovely, very slight Scots accent. When he's at home, anyway.
Good moments in Tooth and Claw, off the top of my head:
- the Doctor's fascination with the werewolf
- the mistletoe thing
- the comments about Rose's nakedness (she never does manage to get changed into anything Victorian)
- seeing the initial establishment of Torchwood by Queen Victoria
I believe that the Doctor deliberately brought Rose to 1879 rather than 1979 on purpose. The question is why. Just mischief?

Date: 2006-08-02 02:52 am (UTC)Possibly my favorite Doctor trait ever. None of this pointless heroism stuff. Only the kind that matters. That's always been my elephant-in-the-room problem with conventional heroes; so lovely that someone sidesteps it.
His natural accent is Scottish. I wish he used it throughout the series. (Too much northerliness?)
I like his Estuary one, too; I love the idea it's an unconscious influence from being around Rose. Not a perfect dupe of her Cockney, and not quite Nine's Northern, but somewhere between the two. The Scottish, though. The Scottish is nice. I hope it crops up again for some reason. I could hear him ask to present his credentials "if a'mae", all day.

I can understand that, now, whereas before it always made me giggle. And yes, of course, when he's at home. Perfectly neutral otherwise. *grin* Or changing at need. Mon petit Francois, indeed. (I love the Strozzi brothers. "Now I see, dear Mr. Blythe, why you have abandoned the Order." I can just see a cartoon Jerott with that little steamy squiggle coming out of his head indicating fury. "I'm not sleeping with him! Really, I'm not!")
Have you noticed Rose's palette change? She's gone from almost all pink to lots of blue with occasional bits of pink. Very symbolic, that. (And I loved her outfit! "Better off in a bin bag" indeed. I'd wear that all the time, if I had it.)

He pulls of the most amazing tricks just high on confidence (or the impression of confidence)
Uh-huh. It's very attractrive, very compelling.
ok this is David Tennant in dr Who persona
He had a similar mobility and charm as Casanova, and was striking as Barty Crouch, Jr. Those are the only other Tennant roles I've seen.

Date: 2006-08-02 12:34 pm (UTC)The icon is my crop from a screencap by someone else - I think it's from Tooth and Claw, the library scene. Tell me, is the icon okay or is it a bit too dark? My monitor's contrast is screwed, meaning that the icon looks fine on a black background but looks far too dark if the background is white. So I need an outside opinion, if you please!

Date: 2006-08-02 12:50 pm (UTC)Well done! Tennant seems to be averaging about 1,000 votes ahead of Bloom, which is fine.
The icon is dark on my white background but you can see the Doctor just fine. It's a wonderful pose. It might be a good idea to lighten it (or heighten contrast) if you can, but if you can't, it's still a perfectly fine, gorgeous icon.
Did you see my list of story recommendations?

Date: 2006-08-02 01:51 pm (UTC)I haven't, but.... Interesting. Maybe Ten doesn't like cats but Nine does? Actually, it would make sense-- we all know the traits you can't stand are the ones you recognize in yourself. I bet he thinks they're stuck-up. :D

Date: 2006-08-02 01:58 pm (UTC)Yes. It isn't the usual approach to 'action heroes' at all. That makes it seem all the more unpredictable.
That's always been my elephant-in-the-room problem with conventional heroes; so lovely that someone sidesteps it.
Yes. It's a very pragmatic approach... adapted to circumstances.
an unconscious influence from being around Rose
That is a lovely idea!
I could hear him ask to present his credentials "if a'mae", all day
A lovely moment. Later on, the Queen points out that he changed his accent. Why didn't the Tardis take care of that? Perhaps sometimes the attention of the Tardis lapses.
Or changing at need. Mon petit Francois, indeed.
Exactly. Lymond can sound however he wants to sound, except maybe in Irish Gaelic, where his accent gave him away.
I love the Strozzi brothers.
So do I! Such heroically brazen trouble-makers.
can just see a cartoon Jerott with that little steamy squiggle coming out of his head indicating fury. "I'm not sleeping with him! Really, I'm not!"
And who would believe his protestations? Which would only make him protest all the more. Poor bloody Jerott!
Have you noticed Rose's palette change?
Yes, but I hadn't really thought about it. I like it because I like blues. Symbolic? What do you think it means? Is it because of the new Doctor, or a reaction to the changes in herself? (Pausing to think of the skirt she wears in "The Idiot's Lantern" and stopping because it's starting to make my memory hurt.)
