I thought this was nonsense, but then saw the results and thought: Huh. Blue is my favourite colour. The description is either the way I am, or the way I want to be. But then it said "Opra". Oprah? ...Yeah, must be nonsense, but better than lots of nonsense I've seen.

I've been noticing your absence - [livejournal.com profile] lmondegreen and I were just talking about it yesterday! Were your ears burning? How are you doing? Want to get together some time?

I've been doing well. Feeling good.

And feeling all the better to hear from you!

Violet - beautiful! I like that bit about "saying truths". I wish I was the political activist/inventor type, but I'm really not - much more a peace corps/counsellor type.

My activism is generally for causes lost long ago...

"Let us sit upon the ground, and tell sad stories of the death of kings...." Yes, that's pretty much my kind of activism. The closest I have come to activism of our own time is in organizing bisexual pride groups and doing campaign work for the NDP.... For all my love of crusaders, I don't have a crusading spirit. I like to think I'm a pacifist warrior of another sort.

I was a founding member of a Gay & Lesbian group at university, and I have my pet charities that I support (Amnesty, the Medical Foundation for Care of Victims of Torture, and LEPRA). But what I get passionate about is the neglect and misrepresentation of people I love historically.

Sometimes I think your life is a sort of echo of mine, or vice versa. We seem to have similar reactions and concerns.... Especially those concerning historical truths.

The irony is, people have sometimes accused me of being "hard" or "less than compassionate" because my emotions are more readily engaged by people from other times.

Well, everyone has their own perspective, and I suppose compassion is in the eye of the beholder.

Yes. My problem (re: other people) has always been that I cannot fake emotion simply because it is socially expected. If something bad happens half-way across the world in the present day, and no-one I know or care about is involved, I won't pretend to be affected simply because everyone else is getting off on vicarious emotion. If a relative who gave me the creeps dies, I can't pretend to be upset. But I've wept for people who died 2 or 8 centuries ago, because they touched my life in ways it's hard to describe.

Date: 2006-07-01 03:49 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] fajrdrako.livejournal.com
I can understand that - in fact, I have been known to wonder why people are upset over things that don't seem to me to be upsetting. But I'm also prone to weep (metaphorically) speaking for all the ills of the world, past and present, wherever they may be - especially if they catch my imagination. And sometimes I can't explain why they catch my imagination, they just do.

Yes, it has to capture my imagination, and very little in the modern world does. I didn't give a monkey's about the World Trade Centre, but I wept buckets over the Albigensian Crusade as a student.

Interesting.... except the colour correspondences are wrong, at least according to what I've been taught. I've always heard that purples were the colour associated with psychics: to do with the crown chakra and all that (whereas blue is associated with the throat chakra, and things to do with communication and intellect.)

I've been able to see auras since I was about seven, though, it's interesting-- I only rarely get faint colours; mostly it appears as a flickering transparent light around the person, and comes most often when I'm focusing absentmindedly on nothing in particular.

I've heard that purples are associated with psychics too. And the blue/throat/communication association works for me! I have been able to see auras on a few occasions, mostly when I was in my twenties - I seem to have lost the knack, though perhaps it's simply through lack of trying. ("Trying" being a loose word here.)

Try having them stand before a whiteboard, if you can find one-- you know, a chalkboard for dry erase markers? For some reason that makes it super-easy for me (which is convenient during boring classes, lemme tell ya.)

We have a white chalboard at work. I'll see what I can arrange!

From: [identity profile] widget-alley.livejournal.com
Is an actual chalkboard? 'Cause for whatever reason those don't work as well-- something to do with the reflectivity of the dry erase board really helps. Worth a try, though. :D

From: [identity profile] fajrdrako.livejournal.com
No, it's a dry erase board. I mis-spoke. It should work, if I can persuade someone to stand in front of it.

From: [identity profile] sparklebutch.livejournal.com
I get to tell people what to do in order for them to be less idiots and more my idea of nice. I get to yell at them, and then tell them I can yell and they have to do what I want cause I'm the coach and SUCH IS LIFE.

Date: 2006-06-30 01:48 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ceruleancat.livejournal.com
No, actually. YOu get to sit and listen to them bemoan their life and pet them and gently suggest how they might improve, and then they return, bemoaning exactly the same thing again and again, and you have to hold their hands and give them strength and be nice to them.

Date: 2006-06-30 01:56 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sparklebutch.livejournal.com
I do the gentle thing, one time. Then I do the yell. Then I do the "well, if you're an idiot, you pretty much deserve it". And I've been doing it all my life, much more often when I was young. And you know what? Some people's lives improved.

And some ended up hating me. And they still suck. I'm pretty much okay with it.

You're a very strict taskmaster, but that method probably wouldn't make you a very successful or popular life coach.

Date: 2006-06-30 01:59 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sparklebutch.livejournal.com
Well, I'm not successful or popular at life, period.

Again, pretty okay with that.

Date: 2006-06-30 02:03 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] fajrdrako.livejournal.com
Life is... as it is. My way of dealing with people is usually not telling them what to do - somehow I don't seem to have an instinct for that - I just do what I think is best for me and let them do what they want to. Which they would probably do anyway.

Date: 2006-06-30 02:07 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sparklebutch.livejournal.com
They ask for advice. I give. Sometimes they do, and life is better for them. Doesn't take much out of me. Sometimes they *don't*, and I don't care either way.

I'm not being bossy. I offer an idea and a couple of angles. People take, or they don't. Judging by the number of people who say thanks afterwards, I'm assuming I'm doing something right.

Date: 2006-06-30 02:10 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] fajrdrako.livejournal.com
I figure: as long as you're being honest, you're doing something right. Once dishonesty gets into the mix, it doesn't work any more.

From: [identity profile] sparklebutch.livejournal.com
Honesty i do. Gets me into no end of trouble. People seem to dislike honesty.

Date: 2006-06-30 02:20 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] fajrdrako.livejournal.com
Perhaps some people seem threatened by honesty? Or don't like it? It's probably one of the reasons I like you - assuming that my honesty-percepton instincts work online as well as I think they do. I know people who simply confuse 'honesty' and 'rudeness', but I've never heard you do that.

Date: 2006-06-30 02:24 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] sparklebutch.livejournal.com
I can promise you I don't lie, online or otherwise. I see no reason to. Plus, with a fnucked up memory like mine, I wouldn't be able to remember the lies ;)

I got one person tell me I rude n vulgar. Anonymously. So, I laugh in the face of scared idiots. That was okay :)

English she go bad now. Sicky make brain go fuzzy.

Well, exactly. That's my philosophy. I say what I think - what's the point, otherwise?

I got one person tell me I rude n vulgar.

Well (ahem) if there were referring to certain rude'n'crude moments of some of your fic - I'd use the word 'primal' myself, if I was feeling in intellectual mode, or 'hot' if I wasn't - well, then, such moments are brilliant and should be your pride and joy.

Sicky make brain go fuzzy

Well - I'm not surprised that we might have aura-colour in common, since we do seem to have other interests and attitudes that we share. On the other hand, who can tell how these quizes are going to go?
