Since [livejournal.com profile] maaseru, [livejournal.com profile] maaboroshi and I enjoyed Batman Begins so much this morning, we decided to watch Spider-Man 2 this evening. I'd seen it before, they hadn't. I wanted to see how it compared to Batman Begins.

I enjoyed seeing it again, but there's no contest: Batman Begins is by far the better movie. For one thing, it plays up Bruce Wayne's heroism, where Spider-Man 2 plays it down; I don't like that much. Add to that, I don't like either Tobey McGuire or Kirsten Dunsk in their roles... In fact, I think the best actors in Spider-Man are Alfred Molino as Doc Oc and J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jamieson. And Spider-Man should be wittier.

I enjoyed Batman Begins even more the second time round, knowing what to expect. Everything about it: I found it more moving, I found Alfred more charming, I found Bruce Wayne sexier... and even though Katie Holmes was still unconvincing and inadequate as Rachel, I could enjoy her role and her lines.

It would be nice to have a poster picture of that scene of Bruce in bed.

"Bats are NOCTURNAL!"

I love that movie SO MUCH.

Oh, yes! There were so many gems, so many great lines. "You aren't the devil. You're practice."

And "You haven't given up on me." - "Never." Which made me sniff this time round.

I love it too. Done right, Batman is magnificent.

I saw it for the second time today, too, with a group of friends. I agree, it's better the second time around. For one thing, there weren't nearly as many obnoxious teenagers in the audience, so I could actually hear all the dialogue this time. That helped! And I caught all sorts of things I missed the first time.

ITA about the Bruce Wayne in bed scene. Yum.

And I thought Cillian Murphy was incredibly beautiful.

Yes, I think a third viewing might be in order... I love this movie.

Always and advantage - though actually there were a few lines I never did catch, and I suspect they were good ones. Maybe I'll get them the next time I see the movie, or when I have it on DVD and can look at subtitles.

Yes, absolutely, to Cillian Murphy. And double-absolutely to Bruce Wayne in bed. Makes me smile to remember.

I agree with you about Toby MacGuire and Kirsten Dunst -- I've never been interested in seeing either Spiderman movie due to the castiong of those two.

....this is utterly unrelated as usual but I finally rented Smallville, S1, and I would just like to state, for posterity, that John Glover is the best thing that ever happened to television.

Also I bet they had to keep a lot of extra pairs of pants around the set for Michael Rosenbaum, what with all the charisma oozing out of his ass.

two good things about Smallville

To this I can only answer:
1. yes
2. yes
and 3. YES

Amazing, isn't he?

Yes, he is, they both are, but their fencing is not. Excuse me while I roll around on the floor alternately laughing and yelling, "What the HELL was THAT? Oh don't even.... don't even.... you did? Oh. My. God."

True, but I can't really bring myself to care, the deliciousness of that scene overcomes all other considerations.

I freely admit that I am a fencing snob/purist, and so mostly what I did during that scene was writhe around in agony. I love it when they're onscreen together and not fencing, though-- they're so similar, it really looks like a familial relationship. They both have that same restless sort of energy, like big cats. And like big cats, neither of them ever seems to be very far away from a sort of sly, sardonic, almost misanthropic amusement.

Note also that they are smarter than those around them, and that even when they fail, they don't give up. Even if sometimes they pretend they do.

One bad thing: Lana Lang. Or Llang. Or however you spell it. Gaaaahd she's awful. She's not even pretty. Well, she is, but it's in a really weird, plasticky kind of way. She looks kind of like an alien, really.

Also, does being a Kryptonite (that's what Superman is, right?) give you extra-brilliant teeth or something? Because Clark's smile is starting to scare me.

Oh my goodness. You may not believe this at this point, but she just gets worse. She's the worse thing about the show. She's a self-absorbed monster with a special talent for bitchy contrariness.

Maybe she is an alien. Or a meteor-rock mutant.

does being a Kryptonite (that's what Superman is, right?)

Nope. Clark is a Kryptonian. Kryptonite is the green glowing rock they call 'meteor rocks' in the TV show. And yes, Kryptonians have strange teeth.

Kryptonians. That's right. I knew the rock was called Kryptonite, but I couldn't remember the word for creatures from the planet Krypton (I'm not as stupid as I sound, no really!)

Did Lex spend any time in England? I keep thinking I hear a teensy bit of an accent, but only sometimes, and then I think maybe I'm just hallucinating.
