A warm day, a good day. I went to see "Art in the Park" with [livejournal.com profile] maaboroshi, and we certainly did see a lot of art - some good, some awful. There was one artist whose work inspired me to work on something visual of my own; she did interesting canvasses with decoupage, textured paper, and bits of paint. I've been wanting to do something medieval.

My favourite artist there was a photographer called Aaron Cryderman, and I almost bought his photo of a tree, called "Desolation", while [livejournal.com profile] maaboroshi liked a photo called Waipio Silhouettes. There were some interesting works in coloured glass, most of which I found rather harsh, and some interesting soft-sculpted dolls with colourful costumes.

Afterwards, we each bough an ionizing fan, because it's been hot and I haven't been sleeping well lately because of the heat, and though the apartment management says they'll turn on the air conditioning on Tuesday, we are skeptical... and currently, hot.

Lyn came over for a while and we talked about comic books.

Later, I went up to [livejournal.com profile] maaboroshi's place and we sat on her balcony drinking wine, eating pizza, and talking about A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin. It was a lovely, relaxing time. I need more of that.

Both those photos are lovely! I suppose you didn't buy it beacuse you're still saving for October... ::sigh:: It will be worth it when you get here.

Do you still want advice about hotels or have you decided on one? After seeing their rooms when Simon and Cindy were here last month, I think I'd recommend the British Hotel for basic, clean and (relatively) cheap accommodation. It has gorgeous views of the Grand Harbour and is within easy walking distance of the Phoenicia - and it's where I'd stay if I didn't live here. The Phoenicia is nice but I wouldn't be able to afford it either!

I wish I could ask you to stay with me. That is, I can put you up, if you don't mind a camp bed in the living room, but I wouldn't have room for Lynn and Beulah. And you'll probably want to stay somewhere together. Consider the offer open, anyway - and I could always sleep on the camp bed while you had the Victorian four poster. :) Wish I had a large house with lots of rooms for visitors. Or even one spare room would be nice...

Yes, exactly! And I knew I had to buy a fan, and I'm very glad I did.... there's no air conditioning in the apartment and it's a hot weekend. Still, I really loved that picture.

As for the hotel, I've reserved a room at the Grand Harbour Hotel. They say we have a view of the harbour from our room. If you get a chance to sneak a peak, let me know what you think!

Thank you for the offer. It may come to it (I have toyed with the idea of a tent on a rock somewhere). But a life of luxury in a hotel sounds good.

I share your wish for a spare room for visitors. When I had a second bedroom (and a spare futon) I had guests visit often. Now I have only one cramped bedroom and a tiny apartment I really can't accommodate people much and I wish I could.

The Grand Harbour Hotel, AFAIK, is similar to the British. It's next door to the British, and Simon's stayed there. Was it cheaper or was there some other reason you chose it? The one to avoid (in the same area) is the Midland Guest House - not that I've ever stayed there, but Simon and Cindy have. The water pressure is apparently so bad that washing one's hair is sort of impossible. *g* Though you could always come and make use of my bathroom... I mean it!

I'd actually be delighted if you did come and stay. It's not that small a house, and I can easily borrow a folding bed. I feel it's only fair to warn you that there are cane blinds in the bathroom doorways and no actual doors, and that no corner of the house is cat-free. *g* But if these are things you don't mind, then think about it . You'd be very welcome and it'd be better than a tent! Seriously, come and stay for a few days, if you'd like to - and save a bit on hotel accomodation. We could have wonderful fannish discussions late into the night... :)

Aww, thank you for the offer of your bathroom. (Goodness knows I may need it!) My choice of the Grand Harbour was pretty artibrary; I liked the look of their webpage, and when I faxed them they had a room for three and sounded friendly, so I went for it. I didn't ask them about their water pressure.

I'd love to stay with you a few days - let's see what we can arrange. Thanks to antihistamines, I can live (at least for a while) with cats. And I'm always a sucker for late-night fannish conversations.

My American friends are telling me that new episodes of "Battlestar Galactica" are going to air in the U.S. in July. Do you know if it's true?

I'd like that very much. Maybe post-Siege, when things are a bit quieter. Which reminds me, I need to try out the fenkata restaurant again some time this summer. Research, as Simon and Cindy call it. *g*

The first episode of BSG Season 2 airs on 15th July in the US. I don't know about Canada. As for Malta, let's just say that my adsl connection is going to come in very handy this summer...

Amazing, the sacrifices we have to make for our friends!

I may have to download BSG too, I've heard nothing of it being on a Canadian channel. Which doesn't mean much; they usually spring surprises. On the other hand, it's also possible it will be on an American channel we can get. I hope so!

The UK isn't getting the new episodes till October. October!! Not sure about Canada. I will definitely be trying to download, either from eMule, like last time, or through [livejournal.com profile] bsg_episodes - if they have them up.
