An unexpectedly beautiful day. Temperatures above freezing, with a warm sun and lots of melting. I went for a walk in my light coat, and was so warm I took it off. Amazing.

I was up early - couldn't sleep - and did quite a bit of housework. I'd planned to go to CostCo with [livejournal.com profile] maaseru but discovered at the last moment I didn't need to - I was going for printer ink but I still had an unused box. Turns out that letting [livejournal.com profile] maaseru know at the last moment was the wrong thing to do, as otherwise she'd have had a ride with another friend. I felt terrible about it.

Went to the Pho Bo Ga on Somerset to meet up with [livejournal.com profile] commodorified, [livejournal.com profile] damned_colonial and Alayne. Enjoyed myself mightily with kindred spirits, though I had an odd moment when [livejournal.com profile] damned_colonial mentioned that she was three years old when Brideshead Revisited came out and I felt ancient for a minute. But only for a minute.

Afterwards we went to Bubblicity for Bubble Tea. I have too many friends who shudder and gag at Bubble Tea; it was great to be with three people who like it as much as I do. Much talk about some of our greatest slash heroes, which Alayne took with good grace, not being a slash fan herself. But sympathetic.

Having now checked dates and realised I was probably cross-pollinating in my brane with a recent conversation about BSG's original air dates or, as [livejournal.com profile] commodorified rather unflatteringly puts it, making shit up, I realise that I was in fact SIX when BR aired. Maybe seven when it made it to Australia. In any case, too young to have any particular opinions of Jeremy Irons at the time.

At the time Brideshead Revisited first aired, I had no opinion about Jeremy Irons either; except that I vaguely disliked the character he plays. I have since found Jeremy Irons alternately (a) a waste of time and (b) incredibly sexy - the second opinion has had sway since The Merchant of Venice came out. It's odd. I'm usually very consistent in my reaction to any actor.

Knowing you were six at that time makes me feel a lot better.

making shit up

But isn't that the best thing a writer can do?

What on earth is Bubble Tea? My mind is boggling, especially in view of your friends who "shudder and gag"? *g*

Bubble Tea. It's an Asian kind of drink. Well, here's a picture:
Image. Keep in mind that the colour varies with the flavour - and the ones made with milk tend to have pastel colours.

Basically it's sweet fruit-flavoured iced tea with large black balls of tapioca in it. Originated in, I think, Hong Kong.

My friends who shudder and gag have low tolerance for (a) sweet drinks (though they drink Coca-Cola!), (b) black edible balls in a drink, or (c) drinks that are odd colours - and they like to tease me.

Looks fascinating. I'd try it - I like very sweet stuff. Hell, I can eat condensed milk by the spoonful... *g*

The large black balls actually sound worse than they look. How come they're black if they're tapioca, though?

I don't know why they're black if they're tapioca. Black dye maybe? You have to drink it though a very wide straw so the black balls can be sucked up and chewed as necessary. It's great fun. Essentially - food made to be played with.

You will have to introduce me to bubble tea, one of these days.

Oh, yes! I'd be delighted to. Maybe next weekend, if you're not too busy - ?

I'm free all weekend but Saturday morning (my writing course).

We can talk about it tomorrow but I'd suggest that we go for Bubble tea Saturday afternoon. That would be fun!
