Battlestar Galactica...
Feb. 1st, 2005 10:54 pmI just watched the last four episodes of Battlestar Galactica to date: "The Hand of God", "Colonial Day", and the two parts of "Kobol's Last Gleaming".
Wow. What a series. Fascinating characters, excellent scriptwriting and a plot that doesn't stop twisting. There was so much I liked....
- I love Starbuck. She's terrific from beginning to end.
- I was a little surprised to see the relationship between Starbuck and Apollo heating up. Those two are great together, but there's someone else I'd rather see her with, so I was just a tiny bit disappointed - though not surprised. Just hoping, I suppose, that they would keep that implication (or complication) at bay a little longer.
- I was taken utterly by surprise when Boomer shot Adama. I don't think he's dead, but I was shocked.
- I'd love to know how much the clones can communicate with each other - either of their own kind or others.
- One of my favourite story themes is "the lie that becomes the truth". I was delighted to see that here - Adama said he would take them to Earth, it looks as if he might be doing so. (I also love the implied similarity of theme to E.C. Tubb's Dumarest series, though Dumarest, as far as I know, never did find Earth again.)
- I continue to like the Boomer of Caprica more than the Boomer on Galactica. I love it that she's pregnant and I love it that Helo is protecting her.
- Does Baltar really feel something for Starbuck? His head is just sooo messed up....
- The stuff about the arrow and the ruins on Kobol and the President's visions has my head swimming. I find the oracular themes a little confusing, and for that reason find myself suspicious of them. I am thankful for Adama's rationalism.
- So many wonderful and interconnected plotlines!
- More, please.

Date: 2005-02-02 12:15 pm (UTC)Understandably! He's amazing.
I've downloaded through episode 11
Aside from the Pilot, there are 13 episodes all together.
I'm just glad I went to that panel at CC and fell so hard for the now-auburn-haired Mr. Bamber
I remain amazed at how good it is, not just Bamber but all the performances, and the intricacies of the plot. Some episodes are better than others, of course, but the show keeps surprising me with the directions it takes. In a good way.

Where's Comic Con held? Not that I could possibly afford it, but... Nah, the only way I can afford the Siege is because it's happening almost literally on my doorstep!
PS I owe you email about accomodation, but I'm finding it hard to suggest/recommend places to stay. Let me think about it some more, and then I promise I'll get back to you.

Re accommodation: thanks! any info would be helpful.

Date: 2005-02-02 12:17 pm (UTC)The lovely man in my header is Jamie Bamber, who plays Apollo in Battlestar Galactica. (Remember him from "Horatio Hornblower"? He was Archie Kennedy.)

Oh god, yes. Please.
I just copied all thirteen eps to cd for you - I decided that was safer than dvds, since I think you'd know if your pc had a dvd drive. ;)
Next step is to find out how to copy films off dvd. And to buy some blank dvds. And if that takes too long, I'll just bung the cds in an envelope and send you the stuff in two batches.

Date: 2005-02-02 06:22 pm (UTC)I absolutely love the scenes between Apollo and Adama; I think it's the best father-son interplay I've ever seen on television. (The interplay between Lex Luthor and his father is equally entertaining, but the opposite end of the spectrum.)
The writers and the production values for BSG are just so extremely good.
